Speculation has fired up again about upcoming iPhones and the rumored Apple netbook. Here’s a round-up of what’s now being bandied about—and what the Sellers Research Firm (that’s me) has to say about each one.
° The upcoming iPhone will have a better camera with video recording features and a basic video editor. My prognosis: true. The next iPhone will have a 3-megapixel camera with very, very basic video recording functionality.
° The next iPhone will sport new battery technology, possibly using chips from PA Semi, a fabless semiconductor company that makes PWRficient processors for the embedded-computing markets that Apple bought about a year ago. My prognosis: I think it’s going to happen. Apple had some purpose in mind when it bought PA Semi—and I think this is it.
° With carriers in various parts of the world adopting or planning to adopt higher 3G data speeds (even AT&T), Apple plans to, as well. My prognosis: this is probably true, but we’re talking 7.2, maybe 14.4 Mbps, not 21.2 Mbps.
° AT&T and Apple will unveil a new U-Verse iPhone app that will let you control your home DVR and more. My prognosis: this is technically possible, but my gut tells me it’s not going to happen.
° Apple and AT&T will team up to deliver a $99 3G netbook that sports, among other things, a keyboard. My prognois: Hell will freeze over before this happens.
