Happy Barcode Invention Day

Almost 95% of packed and packaged items purchased from a department or a grocery store carry a barcode on it. This helps a retailer for faster checkouts and tracking inventory placed in-store or warehouse. Both consumers and retailers have benefited from the usage of this technology. Recently, its usage has expanded to scanning electric or telephone bills, movie tickets and providing entries to sports arenas and temples. In large organizations, bar codes are often used to maintain office file system.

A barcode is a computer readable representation of information. Initially, barcodes stored data in the widths and spacing of printed parallel lines, but today they also come in patterns of dots, concentric circles, and text codes. Barcodes can be read by optical scanners called barcode readers or scanner. Barcodes are widely used to implement automatic data capture systems that improve the speed and accuracy of computer data entry.

Some common and widely used barcode symbology

UPC, UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN, EAN-8, EAN-13, Code 39, Code 93, Code 128, RSS-14, CODABAR, INTERLEAVED, DISCRETE

Not much idea about ITE today Not much idea about ITE today - I didn't know they were still going! That's especially odd considering they were the subject of Canadian TV documentary about their shady practices. Basically it covered lots of people who had gone to them, paid over £10,000 for their services and didn't get anywhere. Their 'patent search' is nonexistent, the TV crew tested it with an invention they sent in, which had already been patented years ago, and it came back clean. They send out a glossy report, which is basically a form report that they send out to everyone with a few alterations, and it claims they will make you a millionaire. After that it goes absolutely nowhere. I spoke to Trevor Bayliss at the British Invention Show, and he's very keen on getting them shut down, so I think that says it all! But if you need help with an invention, we're a product design consultants and we specialize in that area, so feel free to get in touch. As well as that, post on this board, as well as some others that are around, and people will point you in the right direction.

Did anyone manage to honour their past resolutions?[/quote:2gg8n7v8] Happy new year! I have a rule NOT to make resolutions...[i:2gg8n7v8] just my quirk![/i:2gg8n7v8] I've seen the disappointment too many times at failing to stick with the resolution. BUT - I will silently set some intentions for the year ahead and try to be mindful of achieving them... As I get older, I've gotten better at focusing on those goals too. As Martin has said - [i:2gg8n7v8]just focus on one thing at a time[/i:2gg8n7v8] - cross it off your list, then move on to the next...
