Freebie Marketing On Twitter

Twitter is the quickest, most efficient way to jump start your freebie marketing campaign. Since Twitter's explosive growth as a player in the social networking field, and as the micro-blogging service of choice for many individuals ranging from the Hollywood A-list to politicians and journalists, companies have looked at ways to monetize Twitter and to use its 140 characters or less limitation for profit. One of the most effective ways to advertise on Twitter is by using freebie marketing and harnessing the power of a "follow and retweet" strategy. If you follow many feeds, you know it's only a matter of time before you spot a tweet that offers something free or low-cost if only you follow and retweet. You can enter a contest, by following and retweeting. You can get access to coupons, if you follow and retweet. The first 20 people to follow this company and retweet their post will receive a free promotional item.

You can also work variations on this theme. Tweet your review of our latest project for the URL to a printable coupon or to receive a promotional code. Encourage followers to retweet the address for a book's sample chapters.

The beauty of this campaign is that it doesn't require starting with a lot of followers. For a new company, or at least a company new to Twitter, they may not have the brand awareness to attract a large Twitter following, but the viral nature of this promotion relies on the followers of your followers. You're leveraging the contact lists of others to spread your sales campaign beyond your existing base of loyal followers. It's a new take on an old idea: if you tweet to 10 people, and each of them tweet to 10 people...

As more people retweet and follow you, Twitter algorithms will suggest you as being potentially interesting to other users. When multiple people follow a similar selection of people, Twitter will "fill in the gaps" by suggesting Twitter users commonly followed by users with similar selections of followers.

Additionally, the viral nature of this advertising campaign keeps the campaign circulating. Each time it's retweeted, it's placed back into a Twitter user's timeline. This means that if one of your followers missed your freebie announcement earlier in the day, they may see it later when it is retweeted by someone else.

However you choose to promote your freebie marketing efforts, understand that Twitter opens an entirely unique world of viral and social network-based advertising that can help your business succeed.

Re: Using Twitter To Double Your Traffic? Re: Using Twitter To Double Your Traffic? - I'm sure in many cases Twitter sends more traffic than Search Engines because most people don't have good enough SE rankings to get SE traffic. But anyone can get Twitter traffic. The problem is that Twitter traffic won't convert for the most part and SE traffic will. I'd venture to say that 98% of the time getting just 100 visitors from search is better than getting 2000+ from Twitter.

Re: Social Media Works If You Do It Right... Re: Social Media Works If You Do It Right... - Hi Michelle, Ah, but it seems hashtags are still being used by a lot of people - including Twitter! So I would still use them for your keywords. It's just that if you are searching for something on Twitter you can either go the #hashtag route, or do a direct search on the Twitter homepage. I guess you could use #hashtags when searching on the Twitter homepage as well! DH
