Using Freebie Marketing To Lift Retail Sales Online

Business owners are always looking for new ways to improve sales. However, some of the best methods are methods that business owners have used for years, like freebie marketing. Simply put, freebie marketing is a method where business owners give away free items to customers to help sell other items or encourage customer loyalty. While brick and mortar stores have used freebie marketing the most, online businesses can also benefit from the marketing method. In fact, online business owners may find it easier to utilize freebie marketing because many online business owners do not handle physical merchandise; rather, everything is distributed from other companies.

Many business owners understand that psychology plays a large role in sales and success. Therefore, marketing strategies like freebie campaigns were designed to utilize certain persuasion techniques, in this case mainly reciprocation. Human nature inclines people to give a gift back to a person when he or she has received a gift.

In this way, when business owners give away free merchandise or information, the receiver feels compelled to return the favor, usually by answering a call to action. Business owners, when properly done, can use freebies as a way to compel their customers to fill out certain forms, buy other merchandise or inform their friends about the owner's company.

The freebies do not have to be elaborate gifts, though they can be. Instead, many business owners give away inexpensive items that won't necessarily hurt profits or company funds. Even still, these small gifts can be a huge positive influence in a customer's decision for whether they should or should not buy from that business.

Larger stores may give customers a free shirt or valuable coupons with every purchase, though large stores also have a larger budget to support free shirts.

As an online business owner, you must use every method at your disposal. If it is within your means to give away merchandise in hopes of lifting overall sales, by all means, do it. Your customers will appreciate the free items and may even give you free word of mouth marketing, improving sales even more.

Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Everyone, 2009 is a new year and I'd like to create a new forum category to jazz things up! In the past, there's been some interest voiced about adding a "Social Media Marketing", "Online Marketing", "Internet Marketing" or "Online Promotion" category. I'll implement [u:1g2tv6tf]ONE[/u:1g2tv6tf] of those new categories, but can someone first tell me what the difference would be between the existing "Marketing" section and one of those new options mentioned above? Thanks
