Search Engine Marketing, what are the different methods?

Search Engine Marketing, what are the different methods?

Search engine marketing (SEM) is a set of methods that aim at increasing the visibility of a site in the search engines results pages. Search Engine Marketing strategies and methods include:

Search engine optimization, or SEO attempts to improve rankings for relevant keywords in search results by improving a website's structure, content, relevant inbound links number and many more elements.

Pay-per-click advertising uses sponsored search engine listings to drive traffic to a website. The advertiser bids for search terms, and the search engine such as Google or Yahoo ranks the ads based on a competitive auction as well as other factors like the quality of your ads and the quality of your landing page.

Paid inclusion feeds listings into search engines, and typically comparative shopping sites are quite good.

Social media optimization is a way of promoting a website by placing ideas within online communities with the hope that they will spread virally to other people.

Video Search Marketing attempts to promote a business by strategically placing short video clips on websites such as YouTube to be picked up search engine spiders or promoted through internal rating systems.

Link building is an essential part of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Websites need inbound links from other sites in order to get more traffic but also to achieve better ranking on the search engines. Google actually gives a lot of importance to inbound links.
There are obviously different ways of doing link building, and even though link building can be one the most boring thing in the world, it hugely helps to achieve better ranking and get much more traffic to your website!

Search engines are one of the web's major resources for driving qualified traffic, and getting properly listed in a search engine can be a very time consuming task to achieve.
Among all the methods/strategies listed above, SEO is the method that is the most time consuming but it is also the one that will bring most of the business. On the other hand, Pay-per-click (PPC) is quick ways of appearing high on the search engines but can cost you a lot for no return on investment. I’m not saying that PPC is not a good way of making business. PPC can be very profitable but it’s better to use an expert pay-per-click company to manage your account if you don’t know a lot about PPC than doing it yourself.
