Things to know before starting a PPC account

It is vital to first think about and then establish what your objectives are before starting a Pay Per Click account or a new campaign in an existing account, whether it is on Google Adwords, MSN Adcenter or Yahoo Search Marketing.

The most ordinary definition of triumph for a campaign should not really be the number of clicks you can get but actually, the number of conversions on your site. It is important to keep in mind that a click and a conversion are two very distinct things.

Even if clicks are important, as they drive traffic to your site, there is no point in carrying on doing PPC if no one is buying from your site or signing up for a newsletter for example. There are plenty of different search engines on which you can do pay per click but the main big ones are Google, Yahoo and MSN. It is probably better to start an account with one of them as it can take a lot of time to understand how each system work and then properly set up an account. Even if there are some similarities between them, they all work slightly differently from one another. As pay per click management can be tricky, you should always act with care and test.

One thing you should do as early as possible is to research which keywords to put in your ad groups and bid on.

You need to research all the possible combinations of keywords that your customers would be typing in to find your products or services in the search engines. Going for specific and targeted keywords usually means that they are actually less likely to be expensive per click than the more obvious and more generic terms.

Before turning on your pay per click account you should always learn how it works. It may sound dull but many people just turn on and run their accounts without really knowing what they do or how it works. The best example is with matching options. It is important to know what they are and what they are for so you can have a campaign getting your targeted clicks without throwing money out of the window with broad and irrelevant keywords.

There is so much that a pay per click account can do for you, that it would be too bad to miss the opportunity and waste your money on it. If you are not confident enough, you can still go to see a SEO company to do pay per click management for you.

Ultimately, it is your site that is getting people to buy your products. So, not only should you make sure you send targeted traffic to your site with a PPC campaign, but you should make sure that the landing pages and the site are properly designed to get people to buy. A site with no calls to actions will obviously attract fewer sales!

Re: how do I get started with Wordpress blog? Re: how do I get started with Wordpress blog? - I agree that anybody thinking about starting a Wordpress blog should buy a domain name and set up a hosting account. When choosing a hosting account, make sure it is one that is set up for Wordpress and includes an easy installation script such as "Simple Scripts". Two web hosts I'd particularly recommend for Wordpress are Bluehost and Hostgator.
Re: Is Anyone Using Tweetdeck? Re: Is Anyone Using Tweetdeck? - Hi guys. I'm thinking of splitting my Twitter account too. As you know, I have several businesses, and I'm wondering whether it's confusing having one Twitter account for all of them. That would mean I would have to transfer various followers into the appropriate account. Not sure if there's an easy way to do this - though Tweetdeck will help because I can separate my followers into groups. Perhaps I can just tweet them all and tell them to follow the new account? Any ideas? Ros

Re: How do you budget your life? Re: How do you budget your life? - I don't budget nearly as well as I should, although I am pretty careful. I try to have at least $1500 in my account at any given time. I really don't spend that much. Probably important considering my business is just starting to gain ground.
