Importance of headings

There are 6 heading tags available in HTML coding. H1 is the largest and at the top of the heading structure hierarchy. H6 is the smallest and at the bottom of the heading structure hierarchy. Headings tags indicate to a search engine what a page is about. Heading tags label your headline so that search engines will recognize it as "important" on your web page. Hence, you should use the heading tags to identify the different sections of your articles. The heading tags will make your headline bolder so it will stand out. Each search engine has a different way of prioritizing the importance of headings therefore it is important to use the heading tags correctly to create proper heading structure. When writing your headings, include your main keywords in the headings. Be as specific as possible to increase your chances of being listed in a reasonable spot in the search engines. Don't try to fool the engines by sprinkling heading tags throughout a web page. Instead, use heading tags where they make sense. Try an H1 tag for the main title of the page, and H2 and H3 tags for section headings.

Suggestions:

1] Use keywords that relate to the page content in your heading tags.

2] Have your keywords occur early in the tags.

Subject line Etiquette - Another email rant: Is there some place on the internet that outlines proper "Subject line" headings? There mus be a system out there that people use to be more efficient email senders. Not everything that comes into my mail box requires my immediate attention. I would love to educate myself and the people who send me emails on proper subject lines. Maybe something like: "Urgent Review: <<Title of document>>" "Decision Required: "<<Subject matter>>" just something for me to quickly scan the subject lines and decide which ones need my immediate attention. Anyone know of such email standards that exist out there?
Keywords - Keywords in your URL are good, but you also need to include these in headings on your pages. If you were going to search Google for this content, what words would you use? What common words would people use in a search engine if they wanted to find your site? You don't need to overdo the headers, just add a couple to each page and especially on your home page to attract search engines. I think someone also mentioned listing your site in directories. This is good and make sure to list your site under beauty - this should attract people that want to find you. Anyone know of such email standards that exist out there?[/quote:btyoa0j1] Hi Andy, The only system I know of at the moment is the "Set Priority" feature on MS Outlook. It allows you to add an exclamation mark to flag the message as being of high, normal or low priority. However, I'd say that a "sender" is still better off using the phone rather than sending an email that's labeled "urgent".
