Any person who is interested in creating and maintaining websites will know what a backlink is, and how important it is for the popularity of the website. Backlinks play an important role in showing the search engines that your website can be trusted and that it has good quality content for users. So what is a backlink? A backlink is a link that points to the site or blog that you own. This means that any visitor who visits the website containing a backlink to your site has a chance of visiting your website by clicking on the backlink that is seen there. Google encourages backlinks and considers each backlink to a website as a vote in favor of that website. Hence the more the number of quality backlinks the better chances the website stands to rank high in Google's search results page. Also with good quality backlinks to your website you can expect more quality traffic visiting it regularly. This means that backlinks should be of a high quality.

Backlinks that are got from link spamming and link baiting which are incorrect methods to increase backlink number will not give you good results. If you want to increase the credibility of your website you should ensure that the backlinks are obtained from a good source which deals in content which is similar to your website. Only if the content or theme for the blogs or sites which contain the backlinks is similar should they be used.

You should make sure that backlinks are obtained from reliable sources and belong to authoritative sites. If the backlinks are placed in unrelated and unreliable sites then you will actually be doing more harm than good by placing links in such sites. Also you should look to place your links in websites which are of a high PR value since better the PR more the traffic and of course you will place higher in the search engine rankings.

Another way to get backlinks is submitting articles to article directories. These article directories like Evancarmichael.com EzineArticles, Helium and others have a good PR rating and when articles are submitted to them you can make use of a backlink to your site and hence get good quality traffic. This is another way to optimize your site or services for search engines and get many benefits including more sales through your site.

Backlinks serve as an arrow to another website and if used properly they can result in making your website a success. When choosing anchor text also one must be careful to use the correct word to represent the backlink so that Google will get an accurate idea of what your website or blog contains based on the anchor text you choose for the backlink. Once that is chosen you need to submit to many good websites and hope they all get published. After this step is done you will be able to see the difference in traffic good backlinks have given you.

Moreover, we have a wonderful tool to find out from previous posts. On the top right corner, use 'Advanced Search' and write 'Search Engine Tips'. It brings up all the previous posts with that information. Check it out. You will be surprised all the inherent information stored.
Amazed! - Hi Takuya, Your info is phantastic. Would it be possible to have some sort of directory to find this info at a later date? Can one find it in the 'Search' section? If I understand it right, it covers only the Subject Titles. Is that correct? I started writing this post before checking the 'Search' and all its possibilities.
