The most important thing for e-business owners to realize is that web designers are just that, website designers. Most designers unless otherwise stated do not always take search engine optimization into consideration, which can lead to hundreds or thousands of dollars in re-design. It is extremely important for e-business owners to take this phase of their web design and marketing into consideration.
BASIC FLAWS There are several flaws for most sites that e-business owners either do not know or the web designer didn’t take into consideration when the site was designed. One of the basic flaws that designers make is the use of images, instead of text. Spiders cannot read or do not give the same weight or importance to images as they do to text. Generally the images that are used in website design contain headings and keywords in which could be placed in bold or within heading tags, which the search engine perceives as important and keywords within the site. If the designer or the business owner decides to use images, remember that alt tags are important. These are alternate names for the images, which the search engine uses in order to view or read what the image actually contains.
It is important and very basic technique to add to the design and implementation of an e-business site is to add meta-tags. These tags help search engines identify your keywords. It is also important to note that meta tags within the keywords should not be the same for each page. Each page of a website is a different page and should be treated as an independent page.
Lastly, one of the biggest flaws that web designers and e-business owners make when making their website is the use of flash animation. Although the search engine robots can read and eventually index flash sites, it is still not as effective as placing well placed and designed textual content.
