As Internet marketing has grown in popularity and the net itself has boomed in its applications, the definition has grown. Today Internet marketing includes a variety of activities. In spite of its constant evolution, Internet marketing generally fulfills three purposes. The opportunities it entails are ever expanding however.

Purposes of Web Site Marketing

The first purpose of Internet Marketingis to represent a company. The Internet is a great place to communicate the message of a business to the world at large. Plenty of businesses both big and small use the Internet as a resource to reach people. Here they have the space and audience to advertise what they sell and what they stand for. Companies market themselves creatively and compellingly to internet users ideally will become clients if the marketing is a success. A second objective of Internet marketing is to gather information about potential customers or a targeted client demographic. Companies conduct research on the Internet to learn about niche markets and the needs of certain consumer categories. Finally, Internet marketing is used to advertise a product or a service that is up for sale. Why Use the Internet?

The advantages of Internet marketing are vast. It allows for people to order bulk supplies and specialty items on their own terms and time. Even if you are just an individual consumer rather than a business owner, the perks of online marketing are great. You can use the Internet to find employment or hire help. You can use it to shop or to sell your own used items. You can even use the internetfor networking and dating. When websites attract many visitors they are deemed "high traffic." It is sites like these that make great locations for advertising. Advertisers will seek out and pay top dollar for high-traffic web hosts. If you have a website or a popular blog you can get paid to allow for an advertisement banner on one of your pages.

Internet web site advertising is a worthwhile venture. Businesses can reach people all over the world, from all backgrounds, lifestyles, ethnicities and age brackets. Better yet, just about anybody can do it. You can become an Internet marketing agent just by selling your old household items online. Selling online allows you to show a wide radius of people what you have to offer. Whatever it is that you display can stay advertised for as long as you like. Even when you are sleeping or at work, you know that people are looking at what you have to sell. Selling online also puts some power into the customer's hands. If you're the seller you know that only people who are interested will examine your site and contact you for details or a bid. You don't have to exhaust yourself with endless pitches. Instead you make an effective looking web page and wait for the results.

The independence and convenience afforded by web site marketing is what makes it so appealing. As a result more and more individuals and businesses are turning to the web as a valuable tool for advertising, communication and information sharing .

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
Internet Marketing Conference on SLife - I've been trying to log in but it keeps crashing.. anyways.. a friend of mine in BC plans on holding Internet Marketing Conferences on SecondLife and have the same top internet marketers that would normally be in Live Internet Marketing conference speak. Income will be generated from admission charges, product sales during breaks, sponsor tables, etc etc.. Just to get the ideas flowing in your head that anything you can do in the real world can be replicated in SL. There is no planned date as of yet for this conference.

You sound like a very enthusiastic person who likes what she does and in Internet Marketing that is very important and you also sound like a 'people person' which is great. Internet Marketing is time consuming and challenging but can also be extremely rewarding and hopefully profitable. I don't know how many forums you have signed up to but this is one of the best. The support and guidance you get here is what makes it the success that it is but as I am sure you know from looking at the side bar that there are many aspects of business that are catered for here which will help you along the way, best wishes, Mal.
Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? - Hi Kevin, I have to agree with Tanny. All forums are unique in their own way, but doesn't mean that one is better than the other. What you might get out of one forum, you may not get from another. For instance, the WF focuses on Internet Marketing, while this forum focuses on Entrepreneurship. Each has their own set of benefits. I don't think you can really compare one to the other, unless of course they focused on the same topic. I have learned a lot from this forum, stuff I would never have gotten from the WF. With that being said, I've learned a lot from the WF, specifically since I need to know about Internet Marketing and running an online business. The addition of the Online Business forum here will help, and Jeff is doing a great job as moderator.

In the past, there's been some interest voiced about adding a "Social Media Marketing", "Online Marketing", "Internet Marketing" or "Online Promotion" category. I'll implement [u:1g2tv6tf]ONE[/u:1g2tv6tf] of those new categories, but can someone first tell me what the difference would be between the existing "Marketing" section and one of those new options mentioned above?
