Inbound Links are VERY Important!

Article Overview: It's a well known fact that the on page contents of a web page are important to search engines. One thing that is most often over-looked however is building inbound link campaigns. According to Google, Yahoo and MSN inbound links are the single most important factor to a web sites success in ranking well and staying there.

It's a well known fact that the on page contents of a web page are important to search engines. One thing that is most often over-looked however is building inbound link campaigns. According to Google, Yahoo and MSN inbound links are the single most important factor to a web sites success in ranking well and staying there.

When you optimize your web site pages you want to optimize them for keywords or keyphrases that are relevant to your industry. By doing this you are telling the search engines what keywords or keyphrases are relevant to your business.

If the keywords or keyphrases that you use are not that competitive odds are that you will get good rankings for these keywords or keyphrases. If your keywords or keyphrases are more sought after then in order to rank well you need to have inbound links coming into your web site from other web sites with those keywords or keyphrases.

The web site with the best inbound links will get the best rankings.

Re: What works for you? - Hi Yinka, I work better under pressure of deadlines when I am doing something for other people. However, I like to have the leisure to develop my own projects. The first case is what Stephen Covey calls a "Quadrant 1" activity ("Important and urgent") whereas the second case is a "Quadrant 2" activity ("Important, not urgent"). We should aim to make as much time as possible for Q2 activities so that we can develop our own projects. Easier said than done!

Such as: - Relying on keyword metatags - Purchase Links (From Spamming or blacklisted sites or doing purchase links on high level for site marketing) - Horde Page Rank: This is one of my favorites, because it's one that most webmasters don't understand yet. This is because it changed over the past year or two. The concept people have in their mind is that page rank is a key part of site rankings and linking to other sites "leaks page rank" from your site. However, the world has changed. - Swap Links: Another oldie, but not goodie. Search engines want links to represent endorsements. Swapped links represent barter, and they are trivial to detect. Don't swap links for the purpose of building page rank. It's a waste of your time - Implement duplicate content - Use Session IDs on your URLs - Use lots of Javascript - Implement your site in Flash
