The art and science of SEO : Part 1

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the art and science of making web pages attractive to get high rankings on the search engines. While there are not set rules and formulaes to achieve this, it is prudent to follow the best practices and learn from experience.

Over the course of this series of articles, i will share about my successes in SEO and the ever changing nature of search engine ranking algorithms.

To achieve SEO success needs Patience and perseverance along with constant monitoring and tweaking of your web site.

Research and take your time before you launch your site and get that indexed by the web robots, we cannot stress enough the importance of proper research and homework.

Success does not come overnight and in my experience it is often a few months before you see some results on the ranks.

Before we dwell deeper into the tricks and art of SEO, let us first outline the steps in an effective SEO campaign.

First and most important is to know your target market, your goals and your competitors. You must spend enough time on this important activity. Once you know what you are aiming for you are focused.

In the next series i will talk more about recent basic steps you need to perform including keyword research, site positioning, hosting and IP addressing, internal linking, external linking one way and reciprocal, content updation and using tools to monitor progress.

Creating a group Creating a group - [quote:1y7gex6f]He has created a group for Entrepreneurs. [/quote:1y7gex6f] I'll see if I can't create a group for fans of science fiction. The problem with that is anyone on the web who's a science fiction fan already has several well-established places to hang out 'internet-wise.' But, we'll give it a try.
My own page My own page - [quote="JWDesignCenter":kjuv6z19]Mine is google. I used to have my own page on it.. but i felt it was messing up my stats. This way if i need to search for something, i can right when my internet opens.[/quote:kjuv6z19] I also have Google as my home page, because I've got about 8 different Newsfeeds on it, from Science and Discovery to BBC news (which for some reason never talks about news in England except sports, and while I like sports - I don't care for soccer which is all they ever talk about!) But I take the science related headlines and report them on my own science blog..so I find the google news pages invaluable.

Good future for nanotechnology Good future for nanotechnology - I think nanotechnolgy is the way of the future as science is constantly looking at smaller things. However, I am not sure it is developed enough yet to make an informed decision.
