The No Nos of SEO

The No Nos of SEO

With search engine optimization (SEO) as one of the latest and greatest Internet marketing tools, there are many people who will try to cut corners by utilizing the technique in less that ethical ways. Here are a few of the DON’TS when it comes to SEO.

The best technique for effective search engine optimization is to write an easy to read message and then find ways to appropriately include your keywords into the copy. Because keywords are the trigger to gaining a higher listing on a search engine, many people will do just the opposite when crafting their text, thus plugging the keyword into as many sentences as possible. The end-result is an objectionable message that runs the risk of being filtered as SPAM by the search engine.

Have you ever had a site come up on a search engine only to find it was completely irrelevant to the subject you were searching? Often times these sites will use the deceptive approach of hiding the keyword in the background of the site. They will choose words that are commonly searched but do not relate to their product or service in any way, and will make them the same color as their background. An additional form of this technique is to make the keywords very small and placed in obscure locations on a page.

Another method that is alluded to above is the use of keywords that are not related to the site content, such as children, health and sex. In addition to hiding these keywords, some sites will find ways to include them in the text even though they are irrelevant to the site’s purpose, in the hopes of garnering a high listing on a search engine.

Because of the fierce competition on the Internet, it is not surprising that some will go to extremes to make sure their site is visited. However, the best bet for continued marketing success and a reputable name, is to use methods that don’t attempt to fly under the radar of when creating SEO content.
