Google Caffeine wants a relevant web

Based on the success of initial trials and user feedback, Google's re-write of its indexing system code named Caffeine is set to be rolled out to a larger audience any time now. Whilst operating in the background and largely out of view from day to day Google users the update is considered as significant. Matt Cutts, Google's king of search, compares the enhancements to the Big Daddy update in 2005. In a continuation of the previous post that looks at the increased importance of page load speed in the new Google Caffeine search algorithm, it's worth examining what other aspects of the new search format might affect user experience and influence search engine optimisation techniques.

For example - How will Caffeine impact upon search value accuracy?

Search Accuracy - the Holy Grail of SEO and search in general. After all, if you can match your user requirements with what you are able to deliver in terms of search results, you are not only delivering them great value but you are delivering your own organisation a significant competitive advantage.

The big question though is how to accurately identify what your users want. Often the best and simplest way is to analyse site content (primarily text on a site), rationalise themes and return appropriate pages against search strings. It would seem that Caffeine is taking a wider, broader more intelligent approach in identifying relevance than traditional keyword relevance.

Rather than simply focusing on one or two keywords and very tight, specific semantics in order to recognise appropriate returns Caffeine will review and analyse larger amounts of text, keyword strings and take into account a broader richer range of related language - synonyms, similes and folksonomy as some search experts refer to it.

Caffeine's more robust indexing and the foundations that it is laying for more semantically focused, intelligent and relevant search returns means that genuine, themed, high quality content is more important than ever.

Win your search wars with great content.

By making your content original, well written and well presented you not only make your website user friendly you make it Caffeine friendly. Talk to your SEO team about the opportunities that the Caffeine update offers your website and what you can do to take advantage of it.

Re: Is Google Search getting better or worse? Re: Is Google Search getting better or worse? - As per the latest update Google improving search engine algorithm. As per the latest Google update Google now prefer content more than Title Meta tags. Now searches will show only descriptive content of your page so post relevant and unique content on all your website pages.
Re: Cool Video - How Google Updates it's Search Algorithm Re: Cool Video - How Google Updates it's Search Algorithm - Last year Google has made change to its algorithm almost 500 times and obviously the goal is to give more reliable and relevant results to the users. However thanks for sharing the video. Its nice too see that.
Re: Google's April 2012 Update Re: Google's April 2012 Update - Yeah, this update is ridiculous. I have several sites. My best one has been promoted through ethical, reasonable white hat SEO (blog comments, by ME on relevant blogs), some forum participation, and article marketing (by ME, on reputable directories). No SEO tools, etc. It took a whole year to get it to the point where it was earning money and ranking for a bunch of different key words. Now it's gone. So I say f*** Google. Funny thing is, a couple of sites that I outsourced (therefore probably had some sketchy link building) have not dropped at all. Doesn't make sense. They better fix this. Can't just play with people's livelihoods once you're this big, Google.
Re: Who did your logo design? Re: Who did your logo design? - Hey Kevin, THanks for note. I think in order for businesses to really create great logos as part of their overall branding strategy they have to consider how it will engage with a customer. I like the concept of engaging all of ones senses, although I dont know if that is really relevant. There is a lot of research available about the psychology of colour for example and how to use it properly so that it says what you want. There also font treatments that are more appealing to older audiences etc. When we work with a company we take them through a very comprehensive briefing. This includes things like setting the tone of the business, the culture etc. Think of Google and how they update their logo with themes all the time. It makes it relevant and engaging, also interesting....focussed on a young hip market but approachable to all. Your logo is only one part of your branding strategy, ie. what you stand for and what kind of experience your customers have with you and your company... J
Re: Keyword Selection Re: Keyword Selection - In terms of estimating competition, I'm not sure if looking for keywords under 30,000 pages is relevant anymore. I've heard that Google updates billions of pages every day, and that determining the rage ranks of the top 10 is a better estimation of how hard the competition will be.
