SEO check list 2- Your SEO imperatives
In a previous post we talked about various sorts of SEO priorities that need to be on your SEO check list in order to make sure that you've got your SEO bases covered. Important search considerations such as navigation, title, description and header tags as well as the importance of content. Essential SEO techniques that for the most part are well understood and readily tackled.
In this second check list we're going to draw attention to other less commonly covered aspects of your SEO both on and off page, that when combined can effectively can combine to dramatically strengthen your SEO performance.
- Inbound links - Actually this point is well understood. It's such an important aspect of SEP though that it's well worth underlining. Attracting links is without doubt the ultimate prize in 'off page' SEO. The more links from unique root domains the better especially if these domains possess a high page rank and the links come from topically relevant pages/sites. Are you doing everything you can to nurture as many inbound links as possible? Are you running a link building campaign through article ad press release submissions, content networks and dynamic social media? You should.
- Anchor text - Click here, buy now, next and other such link copy might have logical context for your visitors or users on other sites but search engines won't reward your rankings. Anchor text using keywords is extremely useful however. Keyword focused anchor text from external links is actually the singularly most important off page ranking factor in SEO. On page too it's highly recommended that you use well conceived anchor text.
- Google sitemap - Does your site have a Google XML sitemap? Google says: "Creating and submitting a Sitemap helps make sure that Google knows about all the pages on your site, including URLs that may not be discoverable by Google's normal crawling process. "
- Google Analytics - you can't manage what you can't measure. Are you running Google Analytics to assess the performance of your site? To see clearly what's working and what isn't? No? Then install it - it's free and wonderfully comprehensive, a mine of of information that can inform you SEO at an extremely detailed level.
