Maketing Budgets Continue To Shrink In Today's Economy

Many marketing budgets are being reviewed with a fine tooth comb. As revenues constrict, companies are reducing expenses. Unfortunately, marketing is one of the areas taking the greatest hit. During difficult times, expanding budgets are better but not realistic. The reality is that today's marketing budgets have to do more than ever before.

What can you do with a reduced budget? There are quite a few techniques you can apply that are easy to implement and cost little or nothing. The key is to get viral. Have others do the selling for you. Here are a few suggestions for getting started.

Start by making the most of what you have. A business of any size needs to consider leveraging each touch point. When you speak to a customer, call someone on the phone, or send and email, use that as an opportunity to educate or inform. When you think about all the touches you make on a daily basis, they really add up.

Make a conscious effort to ask for referrals. In many industries, referrals are the lifeblood of the business. Starting a referral campaign is easy and can be done simply by asking. You may also consider offering an incentive to individuals who pass along your name or encourage others to transact with your company.

The media is the message. Communication takes many forms. When sending bills or putting merchandise in a shopping bag, consider adding a flier or promotional offer that entices buyers to come back or visit you online. The key is to keep the dialogue going and provide customers incentives that keep them coming back.

Test. Test. Test. When marketing budgets go south, many businesses stop experimenting and trying new campaigns. Although you wont have the money to try anything, you may simply try new "value adds" or other things that can improve your conversion rates at the retail level or online. Consider adding a frequent shopper club.

Improving ROI doesn't have to be difficult. When considering where your successes were in the past, you can probably recall some simple campaigns that produced the greatest return and cost next to nothing. Consider all the different ways that you can recruit others to help you sell. How can you leverage your existing campaigns to bring in more money with less? The key is to focus on the tried and true, make some minor tweaks, and measure the results. Rinse and repeat.

Consider a free giveaway. A great place to leverage the power of free is with your website, store, or marketing communication. Ask yourself how you can attract more visitors or improve conversions. How can you acquire valuable information that will help you make a sale at that moment or at a later date. In today's world, consumers understand that free doesn't mean free. But consumers are often willing to provide a little information about themselves for something of value.

Implement these techniques and consider others that can help you leverage what you already have. These techniques can help you get through the rough spot without breaking the bank.

It is very easy to dip into capital reserves at the risk of the business if accurate and realistic budgets are not set and adhered to. regards, Mal.

Should I Outsource My Sales Function? Should I Outsource My Sales Function? - Last month my website passed 200,000 monthly visitors and, as a result, we have started receiving an increasing amount of interest from advertisers wanting to reach the target audience on my site. We’ve landed a deal with Bell Canada, one of Canada’s largest companies, and are in discussions with two major online companies. Bell Canada came to us as a referral and the other two companies both came to us, presumably after doing a search and finding my site. To date a lot of the revenue from our site has been from programs such as Google AdSense but we’ve increasingly looked at private sponsorship. Bell Canada was our first corporate sale and we’ve also sold smaller ad spots to some of the experts we profile on our website. We have also recently been approached by a website representation company. They basically do the work of finding advertisers for you and are your outsourced sales team. The company I’m in touch with is a reputable firm as a few of the other websites in my industry are also using them. Should I work with them? The upside is I could attract more brand name advertisers to my site and it could free up my time to be able to focus on building even more website traffic which, in turn, would drive more revenue. There is also no up front cost to working with this company. The downside is they take 40% of everything they bring in and want to work towards an exclusive relationship. They are also charging the same rates that I am already charging and quoting for the different sections of my site. As my site continues to grow I’m sure we’ll get even more attention from advertisers as well. My current problem is should I: 1. Continue as is and wait for more advertisers to come to me as I grow. 2. Bring someone on to be responsible for selling my ad spots. 3. Go with the website representation company and let them sell my site. What would you do in my situation?

I specialise in finding and recommending different ways to make money on the internet as an affiliate. I very much enjoy working in this sector and hope to work full time from home in the future. Don’t forget to set up your signature as recommended by GT above as this is a simple way to ad the URL of your website and this will show on every post you make, best wishes, Mal.[/quote:rpz5ne6d] Howdy (Hi and How do you do,in Texan): I'm currently working from home, and with My lifelong ltd. business experience(which is not as limited ,As I humbly stated ,I hope to utilize (utilise in British English),some knowledge to help me be somewhat successful.('California is a "brand new game" to many outsiders, inc. a West Texan ,like me,but I somehow managed above expectations). My ambition at this stage of my life(being formally retired),isn't like when I was younger, and accomplished a lot,'way beyond my ltd. means', as I met with a lot of small and big successes,as I didn't had the luxarious option of losing or failing,in order to survive,I had to'make it'. In today's USA Economy and it's negative implications on all of retirees(pensioners) and disabled folks, It became vital to be able to function with some amount of success...or face hunger,if not worse,in the USA we have a 'nation' of homeless folks, that are unaided.most of them are either disabled,or 'senior citizens',or both. so failure is not an option, currently I live in Southern California, which is controlled by an inhumane and dishonest Reublican governor, that cut income from both disabled, and the aged disabled(With false excuses) .while cost of subsisting here is skyrocketing without price controls.so any ltd. additional income is a 'blessings'.Our country economy,as the whole world is already aware is continue to fall,(I was extremely surprised, like many others) that our country borrowed huge amounts not only from its allies(like the UK of GB, UAE,Kuwait etc.) but also from the P.R. of China(ain't it amazing,it's the greatest 'accomplishment' of the previous Bush administtration),It was done prior to our current wonderful president Obama times,But Obama administration was really honest and transparent about these facts, and additionally acted in the best interests of our country, and improved our country situation so dramatically,so at least we're hopefull. The Praises that our current administration deserves are long.Folks like me try to cease any opportunity to survive ,I'm not aiming to'make a killing' but just survive the onslought ,and 'so far so good',I already started on my own to reach to local pro.(professional)folks, that I had the pleasure to know, and there are real hopes,I already sold on my own 1st ltd. batch of 'virgin'(only one time used) 'empties' (Empty ink cartridges),and even earn already a minor sum of 'income',and time'll tell.My honest belief is just as long as one could act rationally there 're hopes for positive results. Thanks for support and advice,I may put the website into my signature a little later, meanwhile ,I'm so busy just 'to keep my head above waters'.Thanks again.
