What Are You Doing With Twitter To Grow Your Business?

Twitter is being talked about all over the world. In fact, the application has now been around for some time and each day new uses are found for this blog like tool. As a marketer, I've been wondering about the uses of Twitter and how it might be used to help my business. Personally, I'm not usually first to use a new application. I'd rather others adopt new technologies, work out the kinks and then I jump on board. The same has been true with Twitter. After some time, I opened and account and am learning about this tool and all of the additional apps that have been created for various reasons. In no time at all I learned that the main reason for Twitter usage is connecting with others.

One of the key aspects of Twitter that is so vital to me is the ability to stay on top of information in my industry. With so many information sources out there, its impossible to consume it all. By following certain individuals in positions of influence within the industry I can quickly find out whats worth my time and what isn't. More importantly, I can access information that's been referred from others I trust versus simply trying to locate it on my own.

Once you've established a good list of people to follow, you can add others to your list that are either outside your industry or perhaps bring something else of value to your day to day activities. What's great about building a list of people to follow is that you are in control and can either start or stop following people at will. This is a great way to focus your efforts and get value from everyone you follow.

Just like you follow others, others can determine that they want to follow you on Twitter. You might be asking what the purpose or point of building a list of followers may be. This depends on what you are trying to accomplish with Twitter. If your goal is to use it casually, then you may be looking to build a list of followers among your friends. If you are interested in Twitter for business purposes, you should consider your list of followers just like you would a house list that you market to on a regular basis.

Once you've established a list and provide a good deal of value through your thoughts and ideas that are shared on a regular basis, you can begin offering information on affiliate products or your own products and services. When you do this the right way others will learn more about these offers and even make a purchase. This is direct marketing at its best. One must be careful though as you don't want to abuse your list.

Think of Twitter as one on one marketing. You are building a following and your goal is to provide value first and sell letter. By creating a list of followers, you are in essence building a house list of those who are interested in what you have to say. This is essential for those who want to succeed online.

Re: Twitter vs Facebook Re: Twitter vs Facebook - I use Facebook pages for Business and rarely ever use Twitter. I hace lost count of the no. of Hotels that I have visited, regarding their marketing campaigns, that may have 5k Facebook Fans and only 100 followers on Twitter. It is a lot more difficult to engage with people on Twitter and thus harder to gain traction. If you are a business like Nike, then Twitter is great, but if you are an SME, then focus on Facebook or LinkedIn (if you are providing a professional service.) You can always have your Facebook feed directly in to Twitter, so you can have a presence on both, but do the work on one. Also check out ping.fm for managing campaigns - it is a free tool, and a great time saver.

Re: Using Twitter To Double Your Traffic? Re: Using Twitter To Double Your Traffic? - I'm sure in many cases Twitter sends more traffic than Search Engines because most people don't have good enough SE rankings to get SE traffic. But anyone can get Twitter traffic. The problem is that Twitter traffic won't convert for the most part and SE traffic will. I'd venture to say that 98% of the time getting just 100 visitors from search is better than getting 2000+ from Twitter.
