As a website owners you already know the importance of traffic. Getting a steady flow of visitors to your site is the only thing that really matters. If you can't generate traffic your online business is destined to fail. You need traffic to make sales!
The key for generating targeted traffic is the search engine. Search engine optimization is by far the most cost effective method of advertising your website. Unfortunately, many internet marketers do not understand search engine optimization, which leads to targeted traffic that convert in sales. They are making terrible mistakes when optimizing their websites.
Try to avoid the following common search engine optimization mistakes:
1. Choosing the wrong keywords
It is so important that your site target the right audience. Select the right keywords and your audience will find you. Use the wrong keywords and you will get poor traffic, but most importantly, no sales!
2. Keywords Spamming (Repeating the same keywords).
Never use keywords spamming or stacking. The search engines will downgrade and penalize your website for doing this. Instead, use keywords rich content on your page.
3. Using a free domain name or web hosting service.
If you are serious about doing business online you need a real domain name with a real hosting company. In most case the search engines will not index the content from these free hosts. If you
want to make money online you need to spend some!
4. Putting hidden text to increase relevancy.
Putting on-page hidden text will not help you to achieve a better ranking. The search engine robot
will detect the hidden text and penalize your site for using unethical SEO techniques.
5. Using unrelated keywords.
Using unrelated keywords that have nothing to do with your website is considered spam by the search engines and may cause your site to be removed from the search engine index.
This is just a few of the unethical search engine optimization techniques that you should not give a try.
Using these methods won't do any goods and you are taking the risk of getting your site banned from the major search engines an directories.

This site provides a ton of information about a very wide range of subjects related not only to search engine optimization, but also the flip side of the coin; subjects related to searching online.

- Search Engine Optimization (SEO) could be compared to a big popularity contest:
A High School Computer Geek and a High School Football Captain who are trying to promote a party.
The computer geek tells everyone in school & even hands out 100's of flyers about his party Friday night...what happens? his friends end up showing up and a few new people...even the new people leave right away because it is not what they are looking for.
The High School Football Captain ends up just telling a few good buddies, and within hours the entire school not only knows about it, but everyone wants to come, and everyone does come & stay.
One defenition of "optimize is "To make as perfect or effective as possibe." How effective are your article marketing campaigns? Could you be distributing content (that is what search engines index) more effectively? In a perfect world, who would you want promoting your website, web pages, and web content?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is determining this perfect & effective way to do this.

- I read "Search Engine Optimization" for dummies. Gave me a real good foundation on which to build my sites. Really helped a lot.

- Apart from using Search Engine Optimization or SEO for promoting websites, I also find Pay per Clicks (PPC) to be a very good way to do. Why? For me it doesn't open only one oppurtunity for you, in fact it opens 2! You can generate your awaited traffic even w/o saying stop, ready and go and gain a maximized profit too.
