1. Scroll down a little bit on the page and you’ll see a form where you can type in your website address and a keyword or key term that you want to check your rankings for. This tool is great because it checks your ranking in all the major search engines at the same time, a lot of similar tools do not do this so easily.

1. This tool is also excellent, but the site requires you to sign up in order to use the tool www.digitalpoint.com
1. This tool is slightly more advanced. It will track your rankings overtime and graph the changes for you. This tool will only work for Google unless you install a php script on your site and apply for a Google API key. The tool also require you to sign up.
Check your backlinks:
Every site that links to your site is considered a “vote” for your site. The more votes you get, the more important a search engine will believe your site is. The more important your site is, the higher your site will rank.
www.yahoo.com
1. Yahoo is the best place to check your backlinks. Google does not return all the backlinks they have in their database, but Yahoo does AND they will list the backlinks in order of “power”. This means that the backlink ranked first, comes from the most important site (i.e. cnn.com) will be ranked first.
2. To check your backlinks type the following into the search box and click search:
3. Linkdomain:yourwebsite.com (i.e. linkdomain:impact-direct.com)
4. This search will return all your backlinks in order of power Check your Pagerank:
Pagerank, developed by Google’s founders, is the measurement of a website’s importance. Google allows the general public to view the Pagerank of their site in the Google toolbar or via website tools. There are two important things to know about the Pagerank that is viewable to the public.
1. Google displays Pagerank on a scale of 1-10, but in reality the scale is probably more like 1-1,000,000. So, two websites may have a Pagerank of 3, but in reality one of those sites may have a much higher pagerank (i.e. 3,500,000 vs. 3,000,000)
2. The Pagerank that the public can view is outdated. The Pagerank that is viewable may be up-to 6 months old. This doesn’t mean it is useless, but it may not be too accurate.

1. You can also manually search Google and view all the pages that Google has indexed. The benefit of this method is that Google will return all the pages in it’s index in order of importance (in Google’s eyes)
2. Simply type site:yoursite.com (i.e. site:impact-direct.com) in the search box Checking the content of your site Two important factors to check regarding your website content is keyword density and originality.
When someone does a search for “hello”, a search engine will return sites that have the text “hello” in it. If you have “hello” in your webpage 5 times, then you will rank higher than the site that has “hello” only 1 time (disregarding other factors). Don’t overdo it though, or else the search engines will think you are trying to trick them and they will penalize or ban your website. Check your keyword density here: www.webconfs.com
Search engines also don’t like it when you copy others peoples content. You can check to see if anyone has copied your content here: www.copyscape.com
Checking the age of your website:
This is simple. In general, a search engine likes older sites that have been active for a long time. This tells the search engine that the site is useful and successful, otherwises the site would have gone down a while ago.
