One way that major search engines like Google®, Yahoo®, AOL®, and Bing® recognize important, pertinent websites is by the number of incoming links that are associated with the different pages within a website. The formula is simple; the more incoming links one has to a website, the higher the page ranking one will receive from all of the major search engines = Better SEO = More #1 rankings. Why is this case?

When other websites are willing to link to different pages within a site it is a clear indication that the content contained in the site is content that can be considered relevant and intelligently presented.

There is a trick to the link backs and search engine optimization (SEO) advantages that you gain however; the better the performance of the websites you are linked with, the better the performance of your own web traffic drawing efforts. What this means is that linking with well performing sites gives you significant credibility, and vice versa.

Make your back linking campaign one that is very selective about the sites you link with and watch your web page ranking rapidly increase. Visit search engines to seek out relevant websites offering similar material to the material and content you are offering, and kindly request a link exchange with the most impressive websites on the web.

Well done Mal that is a tremendous improvement, just keep on doing what you have been doing but really don't worry too much about the AR, it just nice as a way to keep us on track. David I had the same problem with Alexa and Google, who knows why they do what they do either we are in favor or not but I just keep on and hope for the best. MichelleJ
Re: Readers, Money or SEO? Which comes first? - Hi Chris, I like your passion on the subject; I would have to agree with you on this one. Our company is finding Google is starting to look at content more. Links & Link Value are far more important....but Google is giving link value to sites that have quality content. I read a leaked report from Google a while back that explained how Google manually reviews sites. They have 1,000's of outsourced employees that go through sites one by one and rank them on many different levels. Once a site like Mashable is ranked a certain way, that value sticks with them. That is why no matter what Mashable, techcrunch, Amazon, etc... put out they rank well for. Obviously they all have incredible links but Google has given them link value based on who they are. Obviously the idea of quality content is nothing new, just seems like it has gotten lost in the SEO world. Jeff
Type of business with building - If you owned a building and Wal-Mart was opening its doors across the street in a previously unoccupied area (along with 12-14 small shops), what type of business would you start? Here are the considerations: 1. Money is a non-factor 2. Building is fairly large (10,000) square feet 3. Building is on the corner of a busy intersection (about to get much busier)

Links from sites relevant to yours are better too.
