••••••>Free SEO Tip of the Day: Syncing Meta Description Tag with the Page Title

Your website meta description tag is one of the top solutions in proper SEO . This meta tag, placed in the head section of the website page code, has two main functions; it helps improve page rank from the keywords in the tag, and it gives a catch phrase aimed to complement the title. The meta description is often seen in search results from Google, Yahoo and the other search engines, along with the title. That is why it is very important to think about how the title and the meta description should work together, to get the top search engine rankings you are striving for.

 1. The meta description should complement your title and website content.
 2. Use high ranking keywords whenever possible in your meta tags and web page content.
 3. Write compelling descriptions. The meta description will often be seen in the search engine results (SERP). Make sure your descriptions stand out from the rest of the competitors.
 4. Yahoo assigns more weight (greater importance) to meta descriptions compared to MSN. Google, however, gives the lowest value to your web page's meta descriptions.
 5. The index limit for MSN is 200 characters, while Yahoo indexes up to 350 characters. Google has a 156 character limit on meta descriptions
In summation, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and top search engine rankings depend on many different criteria. The more complete the effort in properly and completely SEO your website, the rewards are higher placement in the search engines. Achieving number 1 in Google means do everything right, scoring the highest in Google's algorithm all but guarantees top search engine rankings.

Re: Search Engine Optimization Re: Search Engine Optimization -

Just curious as to what others are doing to optimize their websites. I have received a page rank 5 from google which is very good in my line of business in comparison to my competition. I am still not coming close to being on the first page for main key word searches though, even though all of the websites ahead of me have a smaller page rank. Does anyone know how this works and what I can focus on? Thanks![/quote:2p2i4nbc] What you have done is amazing. 6 Months to a page rank of 5 is great. How did you do it?[/quote:2p2i4nbc] Hi there, John Alexander here. I agree, that if you have a Google page rank of 5, that is great (as far as PR goes.)Keep in mind that while PR does have benefits, it has little to do with where your page actually shows up in the search results. Having a PR of 3 or higher is fine, but I would not get too obsessed with it. One of the benefits of a higher PR is that the robots will visit you more often and another benefit is they will tend to stay longer on your pages and also dig a little deeper. But when it comes to where you show up within the search results, you must remember that Google (or none of the search engines grade on an absolute scale. What that means is that how difficult or how easy it is to get your page coming to the top depends totally on how competitive your competitive landscape is. The more competition there is for a specific phrase, then the more you have to do some work to compete. One of the best ways to begin is to look for any errors that are easy to fix. Are you using any dynamic pages that may cause the search engines to loop into a spider trap? Always remember, for any design challenge there are multiple ways to fix a problem. Is there any duplication in your Meta Description tags or Meta Title Tag? I only ask, because many times I see this one in Web sites where people are not aware of how important it is for each Title and each description to be unique. By that I mean each Title should relate to what is actually relevant to the page. Same with the Meta Description. This error is so common, that I often see that once people understand and fix the problem, (easy to fix) they quickly lose any duplicate content penalty and sometimes can increase their traffic by 20% to as much as 50% once Google sees them as unique and relevant. I know this is fairly basic, but if you star with the easy things to fix, it can bring you much better focus to your pages and you want every page on your site to be like an information rich gateway to attract many new readers. Then as you learn more and more advanced methodology, because the basics are right, they ultimately will carry you through and keep your pages performing in a stable way. I hope that helps a bit. Remember, doing good keyword research combined with only mild optimization can make you money.

Re: Quick Ways To Utilize SEO Effectively Re: Quick Ways To Utilize SEO Effectively - 1. If you dont want too much competition from other SEO's, choose your keywords precisely. For example, Instead of keyword Loan choose keywords like Bank Loan, Equity Loan, Student Loan, Home Loan etc. Order of keyword also matter for search engines. Search engine treats ?Loan Equity? and ?Equity Loan? as different keywords. 2. Best seo practice is to get at least one of your primary keywords in domain or sub domain name of your website. You can use hyphens (-) to separate multiple keywords. For example: seo-service, seo-guidelines, free-seo each cover two keywords. 3. Get your second or third keywords in your directory name and filename. 4. Keep your webpage free from any syntax error, declare document type at the beginning and validate your HTML and CSS because search engine don?t like pages with too many errors. 5. Give a short Title in of your page in 3-9 words (60-80 characters) maximum in length containing your primary keyword. Remember it will be displayed in search results so choose wisely. 6. Try to include your most important keyword phrases in heading tags on your page if you can but keep in mind it should not be exactly same as title of your page. You can use (H1 H2 H3) tag for specifying anything important. To reduce size of heading use CSS. 7. Specify Meta keywords in heading of document. Limit it to 15 to 20 words. Although not all the search engines give importance but there is no harm doing it. Search engine like Yahoo still give it importance. 8. Write Your Meta Description tag attractive containing keywords because it will appear on the search engine result pages. 9. Use text for navigation menu instead of using images or Java scripts. 10. Try to include your most important keyword in hyper linked text and text and text that immediately precedes or follows the hyperlink. Do not use same keyword always use synonyms at few places. Just like instead of seo, I have use search engine optimization at many places on this page.
