Alt tags go beyond showing browsers info about your images and they are part of the search engines Algorithms, helping tell them about important content on your website. Alt tags will also help in raising your websites usability, allowing a web visitor to scroll over a graphic or image with a mouse in order to receive a brief description of what the graphic, illustration or image presentation is. If you rely on alt tags and text you are making your website far more accessible to web visitors, especially those that might have impairments visually speaking or auditory impairments. Some web visitors rely on text to speech technologies to read the websites that they visit; this will make your website more useful to such web visitors since the reader will recognize the tags assigned to your graphics and images as text.
If you are super smart about your search engine optimization methods you will use alt tags that contain your most important keywords which relate to your website. Since the search spiders are like a blind individual it will dutifully read the tags you supply and the descriptions offered can viewed as content. Whatever you do, make sure that the alt tags you choose are brief, to the point, and meaningful " do not use meaningless content on your web pages at any time. Using proper ALT tags is another step in obtaining top ranking and being #1 on Google!
