Search engine optimization (SEO) involves utilizing every possible avenue before you in order to get top listings and make your website a noticeable and highly recognizable site on the Internet: this includes the act of getting listed in large search engines as well as smaller search engines and in local search directories. Listing your site URL, your business name, your business addresses, and other pertinent contact details in as many possible local search directories as you can is vital for SEO success. You should make a list of all the local search directories you can find and begin the process of manual submission.

As a free service by most of the local search sites, local listings is a powerful yet free SEO tool. Local listings Google and Yahoo appear above all other listings, getting #1 position in Local search may actually be easier than #1 in Organic/Natural rankings. The biggest and most impact of the Local listings are Google Local (also Google Maps), Yahoo Local and City Search. Local search sites that can also help are Yelp, Local.com, and others

There can definitely be a benefit from getting listed in local sites where your website and business can be reviewed, commented on, and assessed by web visitors as well. Often times, consumers do a lot of research before working with a company, before buying any kind of product, or before browsing through hundreds of web pages. Consumers and web visitors alike want high quality products and information; if you are listed in local directories supplying information about your business, and on sites offering review information about you, your web site, and your offerings, you will have more incoming links to your site, and more informative exposure on the web too.

Chain store hurdles Chain store hurdles - [quote:3v8nzz4s]Everyone I'm targeting are independent stores which helps me overcome one hurdle. [/quote:3v8nzz4s] What hurdle is that? I know the major stores like B&N, etc. like to deal with buyers and distributors, but I think they all cut some slack to "Local" authors, don't they? Every store I go into has its "Local Section," featuring local authors, as well as books about the locality. I wouldn't bypass them altogether. If you drive past one, why not go in and visit, talk to the manager, see what they say? [quote:3v8nzz4s]Bookstores want to order through Bowkers and I have their info and the ISBN (identification) numbers for my books. [/quote:3v8nzz4s] You mean the major chain ones do, right? Independent stores I think have no problem dealing directly with the publisher/author. But you want to get your money up front if possible in case they go out of business....as too many independents do these days.

You can engage with customers and much more. You just reminded me to add my business there as well. Thanks!
Re: Google Local Tutorial - Free Online Advertising Re: Google Local Tutorial - Free Online Advertising - Hi GT, Thanks a lot for the referral. I have started signing up all my clients for Google Local. People are amazed that in two weeks they can have #1 listings for competitive local kewords. Tip: Don't stop by adding just one ad. As long as each page of your website is different and optimized for different keywords you should create multiple ad words for each page. Example: Type in "Minneapolis web development" in Google. You will notice we have two listings. One for our home page & one for our mission page. They are both optimized for "Minneapolis web development" so Google will approve both listings / ads. Jeff
