Optimizing your website for top Search Engine placement goes beyond the obvious. Of course there are HTML pages that need to be meticulously SEO in the quest for top rankings, but there are additional items that are behind the scenes that need search engine optimization as well. Creating a web page involves two parts, the client-side code in the source file, and the external files. External files include Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Javascript, images, videos, and everything that is called by the source code of the HTML website page.

Search engine spiders index website's by looking at the code, paying particular attention to the first few lines of code. If the search engine spiders like what they see, they continue indexing until they find a roadblock. CSS code can takes up a lot of the top space of your website pages code and the search engine spider might just give up before getting to your content.

By using external files, you can cut your header in half which will allow the search engine spider to focus on the body of the web page. External CSS keeps your code clean and organize your web files better. An additional "bonus" of keeping your CSS i a separate files are quicker loading times for your web site pages, as well as making one change that can effect all pages in a directory, or even all pages of the website.

So, to properly SEO your website and get top 10 rankings in the search engines, we have learned today that having a small packet of (external) code will make your site search engine friendly. Remember Search Engine Optimization is a lot of work, but the effort will pay off on more clicks, top 10 rankings and exposure, higher ROI, and more clicks from your optimized ranked site!

Re: How do u optimize a Blogger blog? - Hi GT, Of course there is a way and you know it, you wrote it down in your question. 1- Optimize your main blog code : Meta keywords, title, description. 2- Optimize your post - look at it as a web page. You need keywords (tags), use them in your title, first and last paragraph, and variations on the entire blog. Use the Strong tag, add title to links and alt to images. This is it. The key here is to do a good keyword search before writing.

Re: Picking an external hard drive to backup my files - So I ended up buying a Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini 250GB External Hard Drive from TigerDirect.ca for $97.99. While I wasn't able to get the pre-installed software to work on my computer for whatever reason... I was still able to transfer all 14 GB of my personal files via the old fashioned "copy" and "paste" method. Hopefully this won't compromise the safety of my stored data.
