••••••>SEO Tip of the Day: Valuing Meta Keyword Tags

When search engines were starting up, they indexed meta keywords heavily. Until now, many still think that placing “money words” in meta keywords tags will help boost page rankings. Eventually, this meta tag became a source of spam where web users flood the tag with misleading keywords to be listed on search results even if their site is not related to what keywords being searched.

Google has for the most part decreased the importance of the meta keyword tags in their algorithm while Yahoo continues to still place a bit more weighting on meta keyword tags. Interestingly, MSN places a fairly high value on meta keywords. As search engines become smarter, they can pick out keywords from the website’s content without having to reference meta keywords tags for the relevance of the pages. Yahoo indexes only up to 500 characters of meta keywords, while Google generally does not index meta keywords at all.

It is best to assume minimal importance to meta keyword tags. If you know some money “keywords”, do not put them in your meta keyword tag. Putting them in your source code could increases the risk of these words being stolen and other websites can copy your keywords to use them for their own advantage.

Re: Website Ranking #1 in all Search Engines Re: Website Ranking #1 in all Search Engines - To get ranking on Yahoo and Bing you need to have correct Meta Tags as proper optimization is something Yahoo and Bing prefers. Apart from that try to create backward links from Yahoo answers, Wiki answers, Associated content, Flickr. Yahoo prefers these sites and even nofollow links.
Re: Keyword Selection Re: Keyword Selection - Hi All, Very interesting topic of discussion! Website success mainly depends upon the target keywords so the keywords should be relevant to website theme. Long tail keywords often rank easily in SERP. You can also use Ad word Keyword tool for keyword selection. Keyword having less competition and high monthly search volume are easy to rank.
Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategies Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategies - I'd disagree with the first point. Keyword research is important, but it should not be the complete focus when doing niche research. A niche is typically made up of thousands of keywords, and researching them all is very difficult, because the keyword tools won't tell you what most of them are. Plus a niche is not a bunch of keywords, it is a demographic interested in a particular topic. You need to learn about the people in this demographic. Keyword research tells you their search habits and gives clues to competitiveness and potential profit, but you are looking at through a very narrow window of a much bigger picture.
