Why should you even consider SEO when building your online business? SEO stands for search engine optimization, and it basically means getting your website to the top of all the major search engines. So why should you do it? The answer is quite straight forward, targeted traffic.
Good Search engine rankings will help people find your website. These people are not just stumbling upon your website; they are actually seeking out information relative to what your website content is about. As they say in online marketing, these are targeted visitors.
Targeted visitors to your site will convert to sales at a higher rate than any other visitor. Furthermore, targeted visitors from search engine listings will convert to sales at a better rate than any other targeted visitor from any other medium. As we all can agree, if you are in business, you need customers and what search engine optimization will do, is provide you with high quality visitors who are interested in what you have to offer.
Additionally, when your website shows up on the top of the search engines, it adds credibility to your business. So if you are serious about doing business online, then you really need to get your website to the top of the search engines. While that is easy to say, I agree that getting there may be quite difficult. There is a lot of work involved.
For example, you will need to do keyword research to find out which keywords your prospective visitors are going to use to find products and services relative to yours. Beyond that, you will then need to measure the competition of those keywords, and then devise a strategy to beat your competition.
This will mean a significant amount of analysis. When it comes to search engine optimization there are a number of factors at play but most importantly, fresh content and inbound links.
Within the algorithms themselves, there are multiple principles at play, for example, how much weight to place on incoming links to your site and how to measure the relevance of your on page content. I know it may all sound a little out there, but it’s actually not that bad, that is of course if you have the time to devote to it.
To simplify it, use a SEO friendly website platform, if you are just starting out, I suggest Wordpress. Wordpress can be used as a blog platform or a CMS, content management system. Add great content to your site that is "customer" friendly. It answers the customers questions. Make your website the best salesman out there, not just a shiny brochure that says "our company is this and that" but doesn't interactive with the website visitor. Next and very important, start building links to your site. Inbound links are extremely important to your visibility and rankings.
