Why is my Website's page title important?

When a potential customer types in a search query to find a business or service you provide the search engine trying to match that search with a number of areas on your Website.

For example, if I type in "computer software" the search engine will often look at some key factors.

1. Your URL: You would obviously rank better if your domain was computersoftware.com The url here is relevant to the business.

2. Page Title: If my url is SoftwareCentral.com I want make sure computer software is the first two words in the page title. Example of a page title for softwarecentral.com:

Computer Software, Get Free Shipping on all Computer Software Purchases over $35

or

Computer Software, Personal Computer Software, Software Solutions for Home Offices

Please note the keywords I am using are relevant to my business. I sell computer software that provides solutions for consumers. Your page title can be a phrase or list of targeted keywords separated by comma. You should use no more then 12 words in your page title.

The page title is often times one of the first places Web spiders look to identify your content.

Make your page title effective, relevant, and include the keywords that drive your business.

Landing Pages Landing Pages - Hi Sandy, I guess that would depend on how you drove them to the landing page in the first place and what the business is. I don't think there is a definitive answer that works for all situations. What is important is that something on the landing page leads to an action. What's the point in working so hard to get them to the landing page only to have them leave? My feeling is to present them with just enough options to increase the chances that the visit was productive.
Re: Meta Tags Re: Meta Tags -
I'm just curious what you all think -- - How important do you think meta tags are? If the content is keyword optimized and they are being used correctly (as per Google's current instructions) how important are meta tags?? Chris[/quote:tzc1bohg] Metatags were very important 10 years ago. Now, search engines are smarter... There are 2 very important things on your page: 1/ Page title: make sure to place some keywords in your title (avoid title like "welcome to my website, great information resource". You are wasting prime keyword real estate. 2/ Content. Content. Content. Content. Content. Oh, did I mention content?? Your content as to mention your main keywords several times. 3/ <h> and <b> tags are very important too. They tell search engines you emphasize these keywords.
Re: How can we provide a better forum moderator experience? Re: How can we provide a better forum moderator experience? - Hi Kevin, I like your idea of rewarding moderators who excel beyond the monthly minimum of 20 posts. However, I believe all moderators are equally important, whether they just meet the minimum, or go beyond it. I do think it would certainly be a good motivational tool. It never hurts to reward those that give an extra effort, but I don't think that they should stand out from the other moderators, making them look less important. I like your suggestion for offering a better promotion method for our business. Perhaps providing banner ad space for that month? I know we can never get enough advertising for our businesses. That would seem like the best way to go about things. As far as the keyword rich page, I love it! I know my keyword is very competitive, but I really didn't know what else to choose from. I'll have to check my ranking every now and then to see where I'm at. What's the best way to make changes to the page if we want to?
Re: Onpage Optimisation Re: Onpage Optimisation - Yes, they are very important in onpage optimization. However, competition is main in SEO whether you are doing on-page or off-page. Suppose if any competitor is 5 years old and you started to compete that site then you would be able to us new technologies which your competitors may not have used hence it is easy to overcome the competitors.
Re: Website Redesign Re: Website Redesign -
So for 2 or 3 months now, i've been working on a redesign for my oh so outdated looking site. It's not quite finished yet, still need to add my portfolio page and resources page but i'm hoping you all will tell me what you think?[/quote:36x7dfma] I like the design. Crisp and clear. The font might be a bit small... Each individual page doesn't have a bold TITLE to let forgetful people know what page they've just arrived on... May I offer some suggestions on content? Featured client list should be alphabetical. Avoids annoying really sensitive people who wonder why their important company is listed at the bottom! And I am a grammar fanatic... "Business coaching at its best!" No apostrophe!
