Google Primer: 10 things you need to know (Part 2)

There is rampant misconception regarding how Google works, as related to Search Engine Optimization (SEO). I hear these misconceptions so much that I decided to write a Top 10 list of things you need to know about Google. We continue with the reasons six through ten!

6. The more often you meaningfully change your website, the more often Google will visit your website. Yes, Google bots can be trained. google can visit your site today and then visit it next week. If there has been a meaningful change within that time frame, you Google bot may just decide to come back in 4 days versus a week. I once conducted a multi-website test to see if i could train a Google bot to visit more frequently. Results are that indeed I can! Visit intervals went from once a month to, in some cases, once every few days.

7. Google loves good, relevant content. This is all a Google bot really wants. Your web content needs to make sense, seem natural, be to the point, and be relevant for a particular web search. If it isn't, your Google bot will move along to better content.

8. If you aren't the best search result, you won't be at the top. Compare your web pages to your competitor's web pages. Make sure your page has better content than the other guy's. As a rule, a worthless, irrelevant web page will not be ranked ahead of yours. many people claim they want to have a "clean looking" website. If this means a website with minimal content, Google doesn't have much to work with and the web page may never bee seen by anyone.

9. DO NOT get on Google's "bad" list. There are a ton of "at the top, guaranteed" claims out there. Some of these techniques are what is called "black hat," meaning the approached has been flagged as illegal or in the very least, not playing fair. You must always do the right thing and play fair with Google.

10. Play in the Google sandbox. Speaking of playing fair, be sure to take advantage of very tool or technique offered by Google. They may say it won't guarantee you page-one rankings, but it certainly shouldn't hurt you. Better to play in the Google sandbox than to not give yourself a chance. Follow guys like Google's Matt Cutts on Twitter. He regularly shares little morsels of wisdom that will really help you. Google has a whole series of great topics on their YouTube Channel. You need to check it out.

So there you have it. I'm sure you can come up with a few more "must know" things about Google, but if you get a handle on these ten items, you'll you be off to a great start and way ahead of the game.

Search Engine Optimization Search Engine Optimization - Search engine optimization or SEO is the method of optimizing your website to develop your levels within search engines. Some of these include items that you can do on your websites, through "keywords" that your possible clients are making use of to locate your business site inside the content of your web pages. There are means that will help out to establish what those keywords are, such as the Google Keyword Tool. This tool is intended for Google Adwords promoters, to assist them and understand what keywords to offer on for their advertisements. But it facilitates comparably for recognizing what people are looking for. Because the things that people actually seek out may not be what you would look forward to. The other component of Search Engine Optimization includes the things you place on other sites such as press releases, videos, images and different forms of content. The links that comes back to your website from these places thus will help your site's standing progress and get valuable traffic. And the more sites that have links pointing back to your site, the better. Part of the calculation that Google and other search engines use to rank your website is the number of links, and the “power” of the websites they’re on. There are several systems you can put together these links headed for your website from media distribution like articles, videos and various other types of media can include links to your website, so as you allocate them to more and more sites you will achieve more and more links back to your site.

How Do You Check Google Ranking? How Do You Check Google Ranking? - Now that Google is so responsive to your own search history, how can you get a good idea of what your Google ranking really is for your web pages? Whenever I check my ranking for specific keywords on Google, my web pages appear on the front page, or suspiciously high. My way around this is to check Google ranking via other computer Internet links, i.e., whenever I'm working in a library I will use a library computer to check. I check Google ranking before logging into my Gmail or other Google-related accounts. Does anybody else have any other tips for discovering your Google ranking? Nowadays, I check Bing.com for my webpage ranking as it gives a much less favourable (and so, I guess, "truer") ranking for my webpages than Google does...
