How do You Track Your Website Keywords?
So, you have worked really hard to have a content and keyword-rich website and feel like you are doing pretty well. However, you don’t really know how well you are doing for any but the most obvious keywords. How can you get a better handle on how you are doing? Let’s explore!
Let’s say you have a website that offers personal training services and you are located in Cincinnati, Ohio. You want to be on page one for a search like “personal training Cincinnati Ohio” and you discover that you are on page one. But when you search for “sports training Cincinnati Ohio,” you are not on page one and, for that matter, you aren’t even on page five. Unfortunately in this case, you don’t have any idea where you are – you just know you are not on page one. So, why should you care?
No matter what page you are on, you need to know where you are so you can determine how much work you need to do and/or if it even worth trying to improve your rankings for that particular keyword term. Most of the time, it is worth the effort.
There are a few excellent tools out there that can help you figure out where you are with keywords. One such tool is called SEOStudio – you can easily find that product with a search engine query. SEOStudio allows you to, among other things, enter all of your keywords, some search engines to track, and yours plus some other websites for comparison. You can drill down up to 500 results deep and discover exactly where you rank. You can compare your keyword ranking against that of your competitors to see where you come out on top and where they do. SEOStudio is not free, but it is competitively priced and the company is very responsive to questions.
Another great tool for tracking your keywords is called StatCounter, which you also can easily find via a search engine query. StatCounter provides a small snippet of customized code that you place inside every page on your website you wish to track. Once the code is in place, StatCounter tabulates and reports what keywords and keyphrases people have used that landed them on your website. You will be amazed at how people sometimes find you. Once you have this valuable information, you can further optimize your website for these keywords as well. StatCounter does a variety of other things as well, such as let you know where your web visitors came from and best of all, it’s FREE!
Armed with the knowledge gained from these tools, you can better focus your time and energies on those keywords that you need to boost your sales and give you the most “bang for your buck.” Have fun!
