You Need Inbound Links To Your Website

Have you ever compared your website to that of a competitors and wonder how they rank higher than you when your content is similar to theirs? One reason may be the amount of inbound links they have.

Inbound links occur when some other (and hopefully relevant) website links their website to yours. It is important to note that this is not the same as reciprocal links/linking and we will discuss that in another article. Relevant inbound links from a highly regarded website can give your rankings a tremendous boost and, in fact, even your entire website. Let me share a personal story to underscore this.

For years, I have been giving away information as to resume enhancement and personal marketing. On one page of the website, I talked about interview bloopers. There was a writer on a very large website (that has the word About for the domain name) who stumbled across my website with a very obscure search for interview bloopers. In the article, the author mentioned my website and included a link to me. Shortly thereafter, my search engine rankings went through the roof, so to speak and now I get hundreds of hits a day from people looking for resume words, action resume words, etc. Try searching in Google for the phrase, resume words, you typically find me somewhere between page one and page four out of more than a 16.7 MILLION search results (look for the word, FacilitatorGuy and bgolden in the result text. This is simply outstanding.

So as you can see, having a quality inbound link can be worth its weight in gold. Having said that, however, you won’t get that kind of result all of the time and it can take a bit of work to get one of those quality inbound links. The concept is sound, regardless.

How can you get some inbound links? First, look for business on the web that offer complimentary services to yours and who maybe don’t care if you link to them or not. Ask these websites if they would mind linking to you, maybe even in exchange for some type of service or discount. Second, start writing some relevant articles and get them published in article directories. Your articles need to link back to you at some point. If the article directory is valued by search engines or, more importantly, if some big name website runs across your article and includes it in their website, you will have the inbound link you seek.

There is a really nice (and free) tool offered by Axandra – enter the phrase, “Link Popularity Check” in your search engine to find it. This will tool will list a variety of existing websites, some of which are giant-sized ones, and then you can add yours to the list. You will quickly get a feel for how many inbound links you have and how your number of inbound links stands up to the big boys.

Hopefully, this is enough information to get your creative wheels turning so you can increase the number of inbound links you have and improve your page rank results as well. Keep working at it and you will have success!

Re: How can I promote my site? Re: How can I promote my site? - You could promote your site through numerous methods. Some of the proven methods are 1) adding valuable content to your website, 2) increasing the inbound links to your website via article marketing, 3) PPC advertising through google adwords, 4) running a blog in your web site, 5) of course, social bookmarking etc. Thanks, Mr.Ven
Content is KING Content is KING - If you are looking to get higher rankings in search engines as well as more visitors to your website always ensure your website contains a lot of useful and interesting content. The best way to do this is to write extensively about 1 topic on a webpage while ensuring it contains as many relevant words (to the main topic) as possible. Search engines typically favour larger webpages with more content (and inbound links) and will index as many webpages as it can find throughout your website therefore allowing more channels of access to potential website visitors. It can also take a while to write many in depth webpages but if you have a weekly plan of creating 2 new webpages a week for 10 weeks you will see the benefits (search engine rankings, increased visitors) within 12 - 15 weeks.
Re: Anyone know a reputable link building company? Re: Anyone know a reputable link building company? - Before paying for link builders, make sure your website *is* SEOed. Then you can go with link builders. Keep in mind that some good quality 100 links can do much more than 10000 low quality links. How to tell what's a good link: -The content is related to the content on your site. -The source website is an old website. -The website has many quality incoming links. -The linking page has PR. -The linking page doesn't have 100's of links out. Bad links have: -No PR -100s of links out -No related content -** The linking page has the word "link or links" in it. -No traffic. -Is not ranked. I rather link build myself than pay $5000 for some guys in india that get terrible quality links. Always ask for links reports.
Re: S.E.O The Essential's parts of S.E.O for your website Re: S.E.O The Essential's parts of S.E.O for your website - Hey, thanks for these SEO tips. I agree that inbound links and keyword anchor texts are important for ranking high in the SERPs. There were other factors that you mentioned that were also important too (e.g. title tag and age of domain). It's always nice to see these SEO tips because I'm in the process of doing SEO myself.
Re: Bad SEO techniques? Re: Bad SEO techniques? -

Aside from that, unrelated links are also considered spamming?[/quote:3ls0vj4y] I don't know if I'd call it spam, but it's definitely a bad idea. I learned the hard way...accepted advertising that turned out to be links totally unrelated to my site content. Google didn't like that and my search traffic took a huge hit. Took 6 months to build it back up again.[/quote:3ls0vj4y] I think he was referring to getting inbound links from unrelated sites. In this case, there's nothing wrong with that and won't hurt or penalize your site. As long as the site has authority, the relation doesn't matter. In your case, then I can see why that would be so. I'd be very careful about who I would let advertise and what kind of sites they're linking to.
