Content is the Key to SEO Success
So why is content so important. First, you have to look at this from two perspectives (which really boil down to one). When a prospective client - I don't care if this person is considering LASIK surgery ( http://www.the-lasik-directory.com/about_lasik.html ), hiring a personal injury lawyer ( http://www.personalinjury.com ), wants to find a dentist who can treat TMJ ( http://www.leadingdentists.com ), or just wants to buy a product, that prospect is looking for high quality, current and relevant information about your product or service.
So why do I say that the two perspectives really boil down to one? Well, the answer is that each search engine is trying to generate more traffic and more searches for advertising revenue. Google wants to stay #1 and Yahoo and MSN want to overtake Google. So how do they do it? Simple, they make sure that the web pages listed in their search results are the most relevant and the most up to date possible. In short, they are trying to give consumers exactly what consumers want - high quality, current and relevant web pages about the product or service that they are searching for.
If you approach it from this angle, it becomes obvious that the single best thing you can do is provide high quality information about your product or service. Ultimately, if you want your website to show up #1 on Google ( http://www.google.com ) or Yahoo! ( http://www.yahoo.com ), or any other search engine for that matter, your goal should be to make sure your website is the foremost authority on your subject matter.
All the SEO experts talk about link building (and I don't want to minimize this because it is crucial), but if your website doesn't have great content that is regularly updated to ensure that it is up to date and relevant, all the links in the world will only get you so far.
If you really want to have great success on the web, the best thing you can do is start writing about your product or service. And keep writing. Don't ignore images or video, but text is the king right now. If you are the authority on your product or service, Google will find you and so will others. The links will come - and so will the results.

We get calls all the time from attorneys, doctors and dentists who want to hire us for SEO. It seems they all think they can just pay us a monthly fee and we will waive our magic wand and their five-page website will immediately start showing up on the first page of Google. While we do perform some magic, most of what we do is just hard work and it starts with the basics - write and build web pages that offer the most comprehensive, timely and highly relevant content on your products or services on the web.
