SEO, why are you hiding?

Experts estimates that worldwide internet use will reach 1.35 billion in 2007. This growth represents exciting new markets for SMEs who manage to tap in to them.

For smaller businesses to do this, the report suggests that companies need to adopt a "multi-channel approach across all business functions and processes".

The report says: "Understanding the future of online channels is a must for any organization that hopes to compete effectively in today's technology-centric world."

Recently, consumer switching website uSwitch suggested that online sales will account for 15 per cent of the UK's total retail spend by the end of 2007. By 2020, the site estimates that this will have increased to 40 per cent.

As consumers use the internet more, SMEs will increasingly have to ensure their web presence is effective if they hope to survive.

SMEs fail to take advantage of online selling
Despite the fact that eCommerce is currently more profitable and easier to run than ever before, fewer SMEs are implementing it, a new study reveals.

A report from software company Actinic showed that around 90 per cent of SMEs with ecommerce sites said that they were profitable compared to 70 per cent in 2005.
Read more: But, despite this, only ten per cent have a transactional website - one that accepts telephone orders - and only a quarter of these offers eCommerce facilities.

The survey also showed that the cost of setting up an eCommerce service is a full 40 per cent less than expected - coming in at £1,585 (compared to a predicted figure of £2,416).

"Online stores are rarely unprofitable, because there is huge growth in the sector and overheads are far lower than their offline counterparts," said Chris Barling, chief executive officer at Actinic.

"More consumers are letting their fingers do the shopping, but still too few smaller businesses are grasping the opportunity," he continued.

"Given the ease with which you can set up a web store nowadays, there is no reason not to take the plunge - especially if you already offer home delivery."

The study showed that, of the company's not yet offering eCommerce services, 20 per cent are planning to implement one soon, while two-thirds are not interested in doing so.
So stop hiding and let the world know you’re out there.

Re: New Twitter Backgrond - thoughts? Re: New Twitter Backgrond - thoughts? - Hi Evan, I love the idea of using the EvanCarmichael's background on the left. I have no issues with FireFox on my PC, but at work I use IE8 and the main page is hiding the sidebar. But this is the problem with Twitter, it can look fine on one PC and not so fine on others, depend on the browser and computer resolution.

Re: A lot of electronics spam today! -

That reminds me of the rouge hacker who was responsible for shutting down WikiLeaks for a short period of time. He received praises from many people, but many groups also criticized his actions.[/quote:2e0cvohw] Can someone please tell me more about this WikiLeaks thing? I must really be out of the loop because every time I turn around there is someone mentioning it somewhere but I have no clue what they are talking about. I tried to go to wikileaks(dot)com on the assumption that it would be the site but all it says is something about the site not being available. Maybe it is due to the hacker you are talking about? Or maybe I am way off. No clue. Even a Google search left me more confused than I was before. Please enlighten me![/quote:2e0cvohw] LOL... WikiLeaks prides itself in uncovering secret and sensitive documents (more or less, "leaked" files). Well, they released very sensitive materials that could seriously impact the security of the U.S. and other countries. The U.S. government made every attempt to shut the site down to no avail. It didn't last long at all. Then a hacker I read about, I forget his online name, boasted about shutting the site down numerous times for a length of time. He claimed he was doing it to preserve the security of our nation and our military troops, as he's ex military himself and takes that sort of thing seriously. The owner of WikiLeaks went into hiding and put the site on underground severs in a bunker where he was hiding. The site is now officially down for good, though. The owner is currently in jail on various accusations that have nothing to do with the site unleashing the documents.

Re: Should bad tippers be exposed on Social Media? Re: Should bad tippers be exposed on Social Media? - Should bad tippers be exposed on Social Media? No they shouldn't. I guess the customer must have used a credit card, or possibly a cheque (do people still write cheques nowadays? I haven't written a cheque since 2001 - after 7/11 my UK bank refused to send me a chequebook because they were tightwads hiding behind "the threat of terrorism" but I have done just fine without one) or maybe even an IOU. This is an excellent argument in favour of paying in cash... and I had almost been persuaded by the 4-Hour Work-Week argument that you should pay for everything with a credit card that earned you air miles... In a world of angry cry-babies, CASH is still KING!!
Re: Boosting Confidence Re: Boosting Confidence - Hi Kevin, I think it's great that you've shared your passions. It might be easier to link them together faster if you bring your sense of purpose into the equation now. For example, do you have any awareness of wanting to impact the world in any way? Do you have a mission to assist others that might be hiding under the surface? Your purpose usually has benefit to someone or something else. Your passions are part of your self awareness. Your purpose may be part of your outward awareness. For example, a person who likes healthy eating and fitness also may have a desire to really see others also enjoy health and fitness. By the way, I can't help but notice you've brought up fitness apparel twice now. Are you sure you've finished exploring this option? There was a tiny T-shirt company in Vancouver who provided T-shirts to some people on a movie set. One of the "stars" got ahold of it and it is now an instant success because the star wanted to buy the T-shirt for the whole movie crew.
