Article Overview: I can't even tell you how many times I've heard that question. Or, 'When do you think my website will rank?'. Any web marketing company who gives an exact time frame definitely needs to rethink their business strategy.

When Will My Site Rank

I have been doing SEO for almost a decade...yes a decade. I can tell you that even in its early days of just adding Meta Tags and hitting 'submit' we could never tell when a website will rank.



Here's what I try to explain (and also include in my service agreements) to my customers; each search engine is different. Based on several factors can determine how long a website may take to rank. It could be 3 months from now, to several months:


Is your domain and website brand new? Then this will tend to take the longest.
If a website already has some established keywords or pages, then some of these keywords may jump in rankings within the SES next update.
Are we fixing any errors made by a previous web marketing company or individual?
Are there any backlinks currently to the website?
What sort of services will the client participate in? Basic SEO? Press releasese, article contribution? Blogging on a regular basis?



This is just a small amount of what is considered the factors of 'when will my site rank?'. Patience is key when obtaining good search engine rankings.




Ok... so what if you can't wait? Christmas shopping is coming soon and you just launched your ecommerce store on the web. Pay per click marketing is definitely a solution. It can be expensive depending on your target market, but it offers almost instant exposure and control of your budget.

Page Rank Changes - Hi Kevin - there is a lot of speculation as to why so many websites lost Page Rank. A few new sites that I've been following also got Page Rank for the first time. Every time Google does a Page Rank update there are websites that get caught in the crossfire and have to work to get their rankings back up!

Re: What is a respectible Alexa rank for a small business? - Hi Evan My online home business ideas website has been hovering around the 230 000 to 250 000 mark for quite a while now and I would like to get it down to 100 000 as I am in a very competitive market. However, I do notice that the lower you go in Alex Rank the more difficult it is to get it even lower. I will keep plugging away at building backlinks and keep aiming for a 100 000 Alexa Rank. www.tobuso.com and www.paperrollshop.com - Please take a look at these and tell me what I should do. I am too close to them to see it objectively at this point. The main on is the tobuso.com one. The other is just a paper roll side bar project. I have had a guy working on tobuso.com for about 2 weeks or so. I really dont understand why it doesnt have any Google Page Rank yet. I am starting to move up in the rankings for my targeted keyword but I am lacking in the google Page Rank and cannot figure out why. I guess it may just take more time. See if that is what it looks like to you.
Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - LOL, I spoke too soon. Within a few hours of my post, Alexa updated the Traffic Rank on the toolbar. Note however that the 3 month Traffic Rank on Alexa.com has still not been updated...
