3 Keys for Link Building Success
In the realm of marketing and advertising, search engine optimization is still new. And while many have researched, analyzed, and learned by trial and error, there is still no clear-cut formula that will push you ahead in the search engines. And it seems the rules are always changing - what worked two years ago doesn't necessarily work now. And with more companies using SEO everyday, there is more competition fighting for those top spots. With these factors, it may seem that achieving SEO success is a daunting task.
However, there are indeed certain things you can do that will help you achieve greater SEO success such as link building. This additional strategy is very important not just because it will help draw more visitors to your site, but also because links help you move up in the search engine rankings. Here are 3 key elements that will increase links to help boost your rankings in the search engines.
The Power of Content
If you read a lot of SEO articles, you are probably tired of hearing about content. You've probably heard the phrase "Content is King." However, there is a reason content is mentioned so often - because it really does help for a successful SEO campaign.
So where on your Web site exactly do you want to add content? The answer: every page. Even the Contact Us page should have content, and not just your contact information. Include a paragraph or two on your company's history or interesting facts about your field. On every product page there should be a description of the product, not just a picture and the price. Content should be engaging and informational. And while unique content certainly does make your site fun to read, it isn't always necessary to get links. Provide information that people are going to want to read and find valuable enough that they want to link back to you.
Get Noticed
You can write some of the most engaging, wonderful, exciting Web content ever written, but you won't get any links if people don't know you exist. You must promote your site and get noticed so potential linkers can find you.
A good way to bring people to your site is through social networking. Using Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn can help you reach out to your targeted audience and get noticed. Of course, just having an account on each of those sites won't really help unless you use them to their full advantage. You'll want to send out tweets on a daily basis, interact with customers on Facebook, and connect with other businesses on LinkedIn. And just like Web site content, the content you put out via your social media should be engaging and informative as well.
Another way to get noticed is through guest blogging. By writing guest posts on another person or company's blog, you are reaching a new audience and building a network with other bloggers. Find a blogger who already has numerous followers and ask if you can guest post on their blog.
Make Sure Your Site is Error-Free
Things like broken links, error messages, pages that take a long time to load or annoying pop-ups can deter people from visiting your site. It also makes you look unprofessional to have a faulty website. In addition, you should keep your site updated regularly. Adding new content on a regular basis not only helps the search engines find you, but it gives people a reason to visit your site more often. Also, if people see your latest news or special was from 2002, they may think you're no longer still in business.
A poorly designed site can also be a deterrent, even if everything else is in working order. Your site should look professional, and not adorned with neon colors, images that flash or spin, or using 8 different fonts on one page. Usability is also key. A site that is easy to navigate and allows users to find what they need easily is a site that is more likely to get links. Sure, mysteries can be fun and exciting, but not when you're hunting through a website to find the product your need or the company's phone number.
After reading this article, you are probably thinking it looks like an awful lot of work to build links. Creating great content, advertising your site, and keeping your webpage error-free and up to date all take time and effort. However, what is the use of having a Web site if no one can find it? When you are getting links and start to rise in the search engines, you'll see that all your effort is paying off.
