Article Overview: We all want our site to be listed first at the top of search engine results, but in most cases, we’re not all the tech savvy types that can make that happen. What is important, however, is that we’re not too stubborn to admit that fact. There comes a time when everyone needs a little help from a friend, or in this case, an SEO book. We all want our site to be listed first at the top of search engine results, but in most cases, we’re not all the tech savvy types that can make that happen. What is important, however, is that we’re not too stubborn to admit that fact. There comes a time when everyone needs a little help from a friend, or in this case, an SEO book. And so, in this article, I’m going to outline for you some of the most recent and most highly recommended books on search engine optimization in the hopes that reading one or two will help you get to where you want to go.

The first that came highly recommended to me was “Winning the Search Engine Wars” by Planet Ocean Communications. A relatively current book considering how fast the industry is changing, this is a great resource for those webmasters who don’t need to do a complete overhaul of their site. If there are just a few things that you want to play with, or some new tricks and techniques you want to learn, this is the one for you.

Another great resource is “Search Engine Marketing: The Essential Best Practice Guide,” written by Mike Grehen. Grehen’s book isn’t like the rest in that they just tell you what they think you need to do to boost your page ranking. Instead, Grehen actually goes out to interview people who write search algorithms. Who else is better to get advice from on how to get your site to the top of search engine results than the people who actually write the code that controls it all? What’s great about this approach is that once you get an idea of how the system works, you will be able to better position yourself for the months and years to come. You aren’t just going to be following the pack and doing what works for today.

One thing you need to be careful of when looking into buying an SEO book is the rapidly changing nature of the field. If a book was written last year, it is probably already out of date and useless to you. For that reason, you might want to steer completely clear of books in general, instead scouring the Internet for the most recent news. But there again, you run the risk of dealing with all those people who write about SEO and don’t really know what they’re talking about. You need to be critical in your choices of what to read and what to avoid.

If you do decide to actually buy a resource, you might try looking for ones that have a money-back guarantee. Try their tips and tricks, see if they work, and if they don’t, return the product. The only thing you will have lost is some time.

No SEO book is going to give you the magic answer, but there are definitely some out there that will be more useful than others. Keep your eyes and ears open and remember: buyer beware!
