SEO Consulting
It’s one of the hottest, freshest industries that have people around the world clamouring to get into. SEO consulting has become the latest cool job among the typically not so cool. People who were once thought of as nothing but geeks are today proving invaluable to small business owners looking to take their website to the top. If it’s a line of work that you are interested in getting into, read on for further tips on how to succeed.
First of all, this may be a no-brainer, but get your own website set up. Buy a relevant domain name, avoiding any free service providers like AOL or Yahoo. Those might have cut it while you were in college, but now that you’re out in the working world, you need to appear professional. Take the time you need to figure out an appropriate URL identity, since it will hopefully be one that is with you for life.
Next, focus on putting keywords throughout your site’s code and content that emphasize the skills and services that you can offer. Also include the names and profiles of all the people involved in your firm. Make sure that those profiles are keyword heavy as well. Even if it’s just you, create personas for other positions to give off the appearance of being a larger firm. But, don’t worry about making your site too pretty yet. Just get it up there and get it ranking. Then, you can take the time to make it attractive.
Once your SEO consulting site is up and running, you want to submit it to all the necessary search engines. Steer clear of automatic search engine submission sites since they will most likely make you a target for spammers. Also, look to submit your site at a few of the many online consulting directories. Many of these are maintained by real people, instead of being automatically generated, so they are usually worth the time and the trouble.
Once your site begins to be indexed and business starts to come in, you need to have a surefire system in place for determining how much to charge clients. Unless you create a standardized process, charging clients different amounts for different services will undoubtedly backfire on you. Check out some of the sites online that have salary and consulting rate surveys. Looking to see what other people are charging is a good way to tell if your own fees are on the right track. Many of these sites also have message boards, which you should be sure to take advantage of.
Remember, the most important think about SEO consulting is to remain active on the Internet. Don’t just post messages about your services in newsgroups or in directories where potential clients might come across them. Go to trouble shooting sites and offer free advice to people. Get out there and contact some potential clients. Look to sites like Craigslist where you can legitimately post your active. You need to see and be seen in order to succeed!
