A recent study found that more than 60 percent of websites online today lack the proper programming that would help them get ranked by Internet search engines. If you are one of those people, you need to get on board with search engine optimization today. It does not matter how pretty your website is or how much money you spent on designing it, unless your website is made search engine friendly, no one is going to find it. And, as small business owners, that can have a devastating effect. So, here my top SEO tips to help you create a site that can really be seen.

First of all, you need to identify who your market is and really understand what it is your company provides in order to come up with keywords. Keywords are words that people use to search for the sites they’re looking for. You want to place keywords in your website’s title tag as well as throughout the body of your site. If you site is article heavy, make sure you have keywords sprinkled throughout the articles – in the title and a few times in the article body. Be careful not to drown your site in keywords or you might be banned by the search engines for spamming.

Another important thing to remember is that you want to generate all the links you can back to your website, but that doesn’t mean getting them from wherever you can. If the wrong type of sites are linking back to you, you will become a target for the search engine police. If they see that your site is being linked to by link-farms, that will be a red flag for them and you could be setting yourself up for a ban. Try to focus on getting links from sites with similar keywords as yours. Let that be your golden rule for linking.

One of my next SEO tips is to get yourself out there. You want to submit your site to as many search engines as possible – not just Google. Don’t use some kind of submission service to do it for you; do it yourself. You don’t want to take any chance of being banned. And, remember to submit your site just once. It might take up to a few months to get indexed by the more popular search engines, so you don’t need to be submitting your site every week if you don’t see any results yet.

Above all, in designing your optimization strategy, remember that when people go online to look for a site, they usually just use one of the major search engines, and they search for the keyword and phrase of what they’re specifically looking for. That’s the most important thing to nail down.

If you’re identifying the wrong keywords for your website, then it won’t matter how many SEO tips anybody give you, you’ll be out of luck. Focus on figuring out what people want from your site and what would make them come, and don’t stray from that focus.

Patent Walk-Through Patent Walk-Through - Hello everyone! My name is Alex, I'm 18 years old and I'm constantly drawing up new ideas and inventing stuff. I sketch stuff down everywhere I go and on anything I can write on. I'm a big member of our local Future Business Leaders of America chapter (FBLA). In the future I hope to work my way up to being a Venture Capitalist. I think of myself as a pretty creative person who is very motivated. Some of the ideas and inventions I come up with are pretty far out but others I consider marketable and to have great potential. Being 18, I have little to no connections and no resources. I've been surfing this site pretty frequently for the last year and have finally decided to join the forum group. Anyway, here's my question... Basically, I have no idea how to get a patent together the costs and the overall process. As of now, I think I have a great idea that, as far as I know has not, ever been done before. I'm really excited about this idea. I'm a total novice at this and am willing to learn all that I can. Any information that you can provide me with would be great. Again the main things I want to know are: 1.Overall Process. 2.How Long It Takes. 3.Costs. 4.Anything That You Think I Should Know. 5.Tips/Experiences. 6.Confidentiality. 7.Must I Make A Physical Model of My Idea? Thanks guys! -Alex
