What Are Backlinks?

The fancy term "backlinks" is just a fancy SEO way of renaming "hyperlinks". These are links on a web page that you can click on to go from one page on the site to another.

Backlinks are what the search engines look at when ranking your website against the others. Backlinks for your website is essentially a "popularity contest" that search engines use to determine your sites popularity and importance/relevance for a specific keyword and ultimately how high the search engine rankings your site gets.

One of the major factors that will help your website gain in search engine rankings and page rank is backlinks. Of course there are other factors that come into play with your search engine rankings as well, but the place you need to start and continue on with is building backlinks to your website.

What is a Dofollow blog comment and what’s it have to do with backlink building?

Dofollow links are counted as a backlink which is a factor for increasing your site's link popularity while a link with a nofollow attribute passes no link juice. Dofollow blog commenting is one of fastest emerging ways of building one way backlinks for any website. The concept is quite simple. You’ll first need to install a SEO plugin that finds and highlights dofollow and nofollow blog comments for your Internet Explorer or Firefox. Next, you basically go on a google hunt for relevant blog articles to see if the comments on the page have either the dofollow or nofollow attribute. If the comments are dofollow, then you’ll just read the article and make a comment on it. For the comments field that says “Name”, put your keyword/anchor text and then for the “URL” field put in your website. Finally, hit the “Submit Comment” button and wait for the blog owner to approve your comment and if your lucky it might be auto approval without blog owner moderations. Note: You can increase your comment approval rate by writing a very useful and relevant comment to each related article.

I also don't use SERPS but my keywords are on the page one of Google. I only did link building. That's all!
Re: Do blog comments help or hurt your site? Re: Do blog comments help or hurt your site? - Hmmm, some great advice coming back here, I think on balance it may be better practise to remove all comments and certainly pingbacks unless they are from people who I have a working relationship with. From what you have all said, there doesn't seem to be any downside to removing them if our articles are still showing on other sites as Trent has said. Over at the APG where some of us are members, we have a 'Blog Comments' section where members are encouraged to place comments on other members blog articles and it seems to work quite well. I know it's slightly off topic but I wonder is that's something we could look at here to increase backlinks, just a thought, Mal.
Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategy Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategy - Hi David, I agree about the Blogosphere. You have a smaller group that Blog, but do so on the premise that they think they should, but have never really considered the purpose of their Blog. Then I think there are a few SEO or Internet Marketing types that see Blogging as just another link building strategy. But the largest group of Bloggers, tend to be people who enjoy writing and discussing their topics of interest. Blogging is good for link building, but the true Blogger is a breed apart from the rest. They want to dialog, to debate, to have feedback and they are very willing to link to other worthwhile conversations that are relevant to their topic. I agree with you. These group of Bloggers obviously are passionate about their writing and together, they create huge conversation trails interactive and travel from Blog to Blog. But the evidence is clear with this group that loves what they write about. With comments enabled on a Blog and having a Blog tuned to a specific purpose you already have the evidence of original Social Media.
