The Dreaded Sales Phone Call

Written by: Andrew Rondeau

Article Overview: My mobile phone rang at 5pm last night. I looked at the number and didn’t recognise it but still answered it. “Hi it’s XXXX on behalf of Mike Filsaime. It’s your lucky day” “Why is it my lucky day?” “Well, Mike Filsaime wants to work with you” “Am I supposed to be impressed with that? Who the heck is Mike Filsaime? Never heard of him. Is he a spiritual leader?” Of course, I’ve heard of Mike but I’ve been on the end of these types of phone calls before, so I thought I would play with the guy.

The Dreaded Sales Phone Call

My mobile phone rang at 5pm last night. I looked at the number and didn't recognise it but still answered it. "Hi it's XXXX on behalf of Mike Filsaime. It's your lucky day"

"Why is it my lucky day?"

"Well, Mike Filsaime wants to work with you"

"Am I supposed to be impressed with that? Who the heck is Mike Filsaime? Never heard of him. Is he a spiritual leader?"

Of course, I've heard of Mike but I've been on the end of these types of phone calls before, so I thought I would play with the guy.

"You know Mike. He's the biggest online guru around and he wants to work with you. Coach you."

"Why?"

"Because he can make your income grow by at least ten-fold. You'd like that, wouldn't you?

"No"

"Wow - no? Your on-line aren't you?"

"Yep"

"You making lots of money, Andrew?"

"Yep"

"You don't want to make more?"

"Nope"

"You gotta wife Andrew?"

"Yes"

"She'd like you to earn more money, wouldn't she?"

"Don't think so"

"Now, Andrew. You got some credit cards?

Now he's getting frustrated! He wants to see if I have some credit on them.

"No, don't believe in credit cards. They are for losers"

"So you are not interested in Mike helping you?"

"No thanks"

"What about more traffic, you'd like that?"

"No, not really. Look I'm happy. I don't need any more help"

"So you don't feel sorry for me, sitting here not making a sale? I wish I was like you doing what you like, feeling happy but I'm not. I've got to ring people up and try and sell them stuff. Will you help me out and buy something from me?"

"Sorry but I don't need anything from you"

"So what do you suggest I do, Andrew?"

"Do you personally know Mike what's his name?"

"Mike Filsaime, yes I do"

"Get him to coach you and you'll be rich"

The phone call ended.

How'd they get my number?

Assuming the guy as genuine, by purchasing one of Mike's products in the past they got my contact information and then try to sell me the "backend" coaching program.

I don't know if he knew Mike or not but my advice to anyone who receives such calls is check everything out and don't dive in and buy straight away.

How do i answer the phone? How do i answer the phone? - I learned this technique from a successful businessman who earns over a million dollars a year. He just uses his name like this... Phone rings... " This is Dwayne..." It kind of throws people off who have a preplanned script and gets right into it. Phone rings... " This is Dwayne..." No Hello, no good morning/afternoon/evening Phone rings... "This is Dwayne..."
Online Sales and Marketing vs Traditional Online Sales and Marketing vs Traditional - Hi Evan, I am noticing that many of the posts in the Sales/Marketing section deal with online marketing, SEM and and SEO and Affiliates. I was wondering if it might be a good idea to separate that section into two; 1) Online Sales and Marketing; 2) Traditional Sales and Marketing

Re: Can you read body language and convert it into a sale? Re: Can you read body language and convert it into a sale? - I can definitely read their mood by how they speak on the phone. You can usually also tell by the way they respond to the things you are saying. Phone sales aren't as easy as when you see them in person, but I still believe their tone can tell a lot.
