While working from home make the most of your time
Time management is one of the buzzwords of recent times and there is an infinite amount of information out there, in books, on the net, and in training courses. But it's very simple - when you think about it, you can't manage time at all. What you can do is manage yourself and prioritise the demands on your time. There's a famous story about this. The details vary depending where you read it, but the basic principle is the same.
The best-paid Time Management tip ever?
In the 1930's, Charles Schwab was the head of Bethlehem Steel, America's largest independent steel producer. He asked a well-known management consultant, Ivy Lee, how to increase efficiency in the company. This was Lee's advice:
1. Write down all the jobs you want to do tomorrow, and list the five most important in order of priority.
2. As soon as you start work tomorrow morning, start on the first item and don't give up until it is complete, or as complete as you are able to make it.
3. Then start on the second item. If other jobs arise during the day, only deal with them if they are more important than the one you are already working on. If not add them to your list in order of priority.
4. When you have completed the first five jobs as far as you can, make another list of the next five jobs. It's not a problem if you can't do everything on the list - at least the most important jobs will be completed.
Schwab agreed to ask his managers to put this advice into practice for a month and then pay Lee whatever he felt it was worth. A month later, he sent Lee a cheque for $25,000, equivalent to almost $300,000 in today's money. Schwab later said that it was the single most useful piece of information he had ever received and he believed it was immensely significant in the success of the company.
Give it a try and you will find it does work beautifully.
You have to be very disciplined if the top things on your lists are tasks you hate doing, but I guarantee it does pay off.

Re: What is your biggest challenge? Today?
- My biggest challenge is time. Since I still have a full time job it's really hard to make the time to do the things that are extremely important for an online business. After working 9 hrs. in the real world I'm usually too exhausted to do any work when I get home. Speaking of which, gotta get up in five hours, nite all. Tim.
Re: Women and Home Based Business Opportunities
- Honestly, in most cases today... stay at home moms or wives does not necessarily equate to unemployment or anything of that sort. You will be surprised to see how many women who are making it big working at home. Perhaps the convenience of working at home and the flexibility of the work schedule attracts many women at home to engage in online work rather than actual office based work. Furthermore you should see how many clients prefer women over men when it comes to online jobs at home. Most clients states that women are always on time for work and are commited to get the job done. There are also a lot of women entrepreneurs who are now opting to start a home based online business because of the benefit of getting to be with your family at home. I know some women who successfully balances their online business and their roles as wife and mother. It sure is fun to see them work their business like a bonding time for them. I know one that is running a RTW clothing line online... Her husband is a photographer so he takes pictures for their products while their children gladly poses for the camera as a part of their portfolio. Well I guess if you really want to work out a scenario there are a lot of ways.. but if you are not that determined to do so then you can just think of different excuses.
What’s your opinion about working form home
- In my opinion doing a full time job from your home sounds pretty cool but does not have a good credibility. I feel that doing a job in an office or working in a specific office place is the real thing. You should not make your home place also an office place. You may share your thought of view on the above mentioned topic.
Re: Why Did You Become An Entrepreneur?
- Hi members,
This is a great post by Evan and I am late getting on board but I thought I would ad my few cents worth, LOL.
I must say that wanting to be an Entrepreneur or work for myself has never ever meant that I wanted to have my own company, that has never been my motivation. My motivation has always been to work from home and be in control of my life, nothing else.
Just to be able to organise my life around working from home would be a dream come true for me and is something I am striving for. I have always been a fairly organised sort of person so the old trap of giving myself too much time off would probably work just the opposite for me. I would be so frightened of failure I would probably work too much.
There is an old saying which goes something like ’If you love what you do then you never do a days work in your life’. It is something like that anyway and for many of us, working from home would seem like that, it certainly would for me,
regards,
Mal.
