Count your links

Have you ever thought of why we are not recommended to link to a website page that is having more than 100 links? Yes, Google recommends that we need to keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number and fewer than 100 is optimum. RecentlyMatt Cuttsfrom Google was talking about the same. Why Google gave provide that recommendation and what happens if you don’t mind it.

The reason what he says was because Google spiders used to index only about 100KB of a page that it crawls. So if the page has more than 100 links, there is always a chance that the page would be truncated and Google spiders won’t drink all the juicy links or information.

Things have changed and now Google spiders are boosted up with more energy, that it will index more than 100k of a page, but still considering the user experience, it is recommended to have up to a maximum of 100 links. Put the shoes of the visitor and look at the page, how you feel it. Now the real question comes here: Will Google consider my website as spam when it has 100+ links on a page?

Matt Cutts added, No, not at all. The “100 links” recommendation is in the “Design and content” guidelines section, and it’s the Quality guidelines that contain the things that we consider web spam (stuff like hidden text, doorway pages, installing malware, etc.).

If you end up with a links page where you have 100 + links, think this. Each page will get its share of link juice and when it comes to more pages, the link juice gets diluted. Why do we need to link to a page filled with loads of links? Anyways we don’t get any good link juice from it.. So before you go overboard putting a ton of links on a page, ask yourself what the purpose of the page is and whether it works well for the user experience.

Re: Anyone know a reputable link building company? Re: Anyone know a reputable link building company? - Before paying for link builders, make sure your website *is* SEOed. Then you can go with link builders. Keep in mind that some good quality 100 links can do much more than 10000 low quality links. How to tell what's a good link: -The content is related to the content on your site. -The source website is an old website. -The website has many quality incoming links. -The linking page has PR. -The linking page doesn't have 100's of links out. Bad links have: -No PR -100s of links out -No related content -** The linking page has the word "link or links" in it. -No traffic. -Is not ranked. I rather link build myself than pay $5000 for some guys in india that get terrible quality links. Always ask for links reports.
Re: link exchange strategy Re: link exchange strategy - [quote="RussellWebb":2xvcpjwz]Questions that pop into mind... Does PR ranking effect 'who' you would exchange links with? Do you really need thousands of links to rank higher in the SE's? Are one-way links better than reciprocal links?[/quote:2xvcpjwz] Hi Russell, While I know you posed these SEO questions for Samin, I thought I'd help you get the conversation started by putting in my 2 cents. 1.) I think it's all about getting "quality" and high ranking/trusted sites (that are related to the content of your site and industry) to link back to you. 2.) While it's somewhat true that the more links you have the better, I'd suggest focusing on "quality" links rather than quantity. Poor sites and ones that aren't related to your field can actually hurt your rankings. 3.) Absolutely, it's much better if someone only links to you. However, reciprocal links are still good for those who have just launched a new site and are getting started. If I'm wrong about any of these comments, please feel free to correct me.
Re: Why is Adobe #1 for the keyword "Click Here" in Google? Re: Why is Adobe #1 for the keyword "Click Here" in Google? - Hi, Yes, most people need to focus on link development to increase their search engine rankings. But, if we analyzed the back links of Adobe I will bet that the majority of links were not purchased, not part of a link exchange, or even obtained by some internet marketer that worked for Adobe. The majority of links came because Adobe created a good product & a free download for that good product. That is something to keep in mind when promoting a website or trying to obtain links. Is it more cost effective to buy links or save your advertising dollars and just create a reason to be noticed? Jeff
Re: How to do Link Building? Re: How to do Link Building? - Rob, So, how do we effectively build links? Do you use any software to build links? How many links do we need to use daily 2-3 is enough? Robert
