Like any marketing tool, SEO is also constantly changing so that it adapts to current and newer environments. Therefore, if you really want maximum visibility for your website, it is important to be aware of the latest trends and techniques in the SEO field.

• Using long tail keywords:SEO copywriting is an age old formula to gain maximum visibility, which requires original, unique and keyword rich content to be posted on your website. This trend continues to be one of the popular ways to attract search engines, even today but with slight changes. Keywords used today are long tail or organic keywords and good SEO would mean your effort to increase rankings of less competitive keywords while stabilizing the rankings of highly competitive ones.
• Targeting clientele of specific geographical location:Apart from SEO copywriting, geographical optimization is another recent trend in search engine optimization. In other words, searchers today use personalized searches in the form of specifications like location, type etc, in order to ensure high ranking on search engines. It is important to specify the geographical location of your businesses as well as geo-specific meta tags on your website. Doing so will ensure that your website has a higher rank on search engines.
• Catering to personalized searches:These days, web surfers base their searches on personal likes, dislikes, behavior patterns and the like. As a business owner, it becomes necessary to cater to such peculiarities of the searcher and ensure that you are ranked high even on personalized searches.
• Blogging:Blogging and creating content rich articles for various blogs and blogging platforms like WordPress and Blogger etc along with websites like Hubpages etc is also another popular method used by SEO firms to enhance search engine rankings of your page and ultimately make it more visible to a wider target audience. It is pertinent to note that in the early days of blogging and forum posting, creation of backlinks to your website was the most popular way of directing traffic to your website. But in recent days, indiscriminate creation of backlinks is frowned upon by websites. Therefore, it is important that you limit your backlinks to only quality pages as well as use the no follow tag to your link, which ensures that you are not indiscriminately posting your links.
• Using business directories:SEO experts believe that creating linkages with business directories, both local as well as global, can enhance the visibility of your website considerably.

However, while looking out for good SEO firms, it is important that you choose the one that is willing to grow with the times by learning and changing its SEO techniques to incorporate the newer trends and techniques.

Or would this be very inconvenient? By listing 10 niche forum topics (with "10 Recent Posts" being one of them), it would allow for more room for social glue ideas and also make navigation through the site easier as well.

What can we say about this subject and be constructive. One thing is sure, nothing stays the same for ever. Trends change, fashions change, peoples perspective change etc. In fact we can never exhaust the continous changes that take place all around us. Many of the changes happen without us recognizing it until later; sometimes too late to stop it, if need be. PS, English is my second/third language. If you can write the above better, please do it an let me know. I want to learn to write better and better.
It's hard to find the selected post - Hi Evan, When you click on an item from the "10 Recent Posts" column, a new window will open but it won't take me to the specific post and I'm forced to scroll down the page to look for it. Would you be able to fix this?
