Being a writer, it is very important to understand the finer nuances of copywriting. In this article, I will discuss the secrets of having a good title and an opening line.

Whatever you write, be it an article or an essay, it is essential that you have a good, if not, a great title. Wear the reader’s shoes and give it a fair thought. The first aspect of the piece you write encountered by a reader is the title and if the title is weak or does not appeal to the reader, the chances are slim that the reader will go through your article/essay. Is that what you want?

Conversely, if the title is appealing and good, the reader will go through the article/essay even if it does not belong to his niche. This is because of the interest you have created in the reader’s mind. Imagine a situation where you are researching for information on the internet. You will search the search engine and open tabs that seem relevant to you. Once you get to the tabs, you will read further on only when the title or the headline seems relevant or interesting, isn’t it? Let us contemplate a few more titles for this article:

  2. How to write a good article title
  3. Why should you have a good article title or
  4. The tips and tricks of writing a good title


Of the above which title do you think would have gone better on the top?

I guess the one which is there serves the purpose beautifully. The point to be noted here is that you will need to think about the audience that the article will address. I am sure this article would address existing writers and the aspiring ones. The point of writing for the audience of this article is to get the reader interested. And the title addresses exactly the situation. The alternate titles that we have above do not address the same and are thus worthless. I am sure you are getting the drift.

Another aspect that you need to get used to is to have a good opening line. A good title evinces interest and a good opening line fortifies it. A good opening line shows what the article contains in an alluring manner and thus fortifies the reader’s interest. The opening line of this article addresses the target audience directly and talks about understanding “finer nuances”. Does that appeal to you? If you are here, I am sure it did fortify your interest, didn’t it? I will tell you why it does that. The opening line of this article creates a psychological factor that says – “you are a professional copywriter, I am one too and I am sharing a few points which you may find useful”. Will the appeal last, you bet..!

People talk about SEO articles and SEO web content with keywords in the title and in the first 200 words and the last paragraph…. And so on. However, these aspects are secondary to the main objective – getting people to read. If you can get the SEO stuff woven into your expert piece, all the more better since you will be killing two birds with a single stone.
