I have been expecting this for a while and I think as social networking develops we can expect to see sites with a lot more content and functionality to keep pace with what is still quite a young part of Internet Marketing. The shear size of Facebook, Twitter and Squidoo et al with the membership base that they have on the Internet makes them a natural fit for market expansion and I can see a lot more business being done on these sites in the years ahead, thanks for sharing, Mal.

The next step is to publish on Amazon.com via CreateSpace - the great thing about it is that you don't have to commit to publishing a "print run" any more. CreateSpace, and other sites such as LuLu allow you to upload your copy and they will "publish on demand" as the orders come in. In short, the Internet has revolutionized publishing.

My main business model has always been to get high rankings for whatever keywords I am targeting on a particular site so targeted traffic keeps coming in every day without really any extra work on my part. No need for repeat traffic with that model. Yes, it would help but I would rather just keep building new sites and going for search engine traffic instead of worrying about building relationships with subscribers or regular readers. That's part of why I don't use or recommend using social sites very much.
