Google’s Visual Search- See, hear and Search in Real-Time.

In early December, 2009 Google announced its new search feature at Computer History Museum, California. In this Search feature Google announced an innovative idea: "Users can now search information by just taking picture with mobile phones or spoken words instead of typing keywords."

This feature includes finding places by clicking "Near Me Now" tab in your iPhone or Android browser through Google.com. Once your location gets captured by Google it gives you all near by location of your preferred search term. . This Service is currently available in US for the iPhone (OS 3.X) or Android-powered devices with version 2.0.1 or later.

What Google Says About it?

When Google showed up with Marissa Mater (Search VP), Vic Gundotra (Engineering VP) and fellow Amit Singhal recently, everybody was sure that there is something big coming up. Indeed it was. Google disclosed that its new search technique will have direct competition with Bing. They said Google still remains Search giant with 65% share, whereas Bing and yahoo together share 30% of search market. We have already seen Real-Time result in Google's search page, which includes twitter integration. Google claims to be the first to do this. However, there are other services like Collecta, One Riot and Crowdeye, which provide Real Time Search results on Social Media.

Addressing the crowd of reporters and bloggers, Mr. Singhal used the same kind of hyperbole as we had heard him say last time:

"At Google, we are never satisfied. It takes a tenth of a second for light to go around the world. At Google we will not be satisfied until that is the only barrier between you and your information."

What is Visual Search and Voice Search?

Visual search is where search queries are made of pictures instead of words. Mr. Gundotra shows how this works by snapping a picture of a wine bottle with his phone. He said that this kind of computer vision was one of the toughest challenges, since all sorts of information popped up in the search result box while using a picture. You can further refine your search by saying Size and Form. These are some other important features "Voice Search".

It is an experimental Version available for Mobile Users, and they named it as "Google Goggles". If you're viewing a product or a thing and need more information about it, take a snap and search it in your mobile with Google Goggles. This can make your decision more precise and easy.

Google finds various ways of making sure that search gets better and user friendly day by day. In my view, this feature which is still under experimental phase is turning out to be a milestone for making search engines more users friendly. It acts like a personal assistance. Suppose a user types a word like "I need a candy" and clicks enter. Search engine will list all candy shop near him with some useful information like price of ice creams, distance of shops, popular shop's name and some popular ice cream flavor. Hopeful all this will be more common in the next phase when web 3.0 becomes common.

If I understand it right, it covers only the Subject Titles. Is that correct? I started writing this post before checking the 'Search' and all its possibilities.
