How WordPress Trackback works?

How WordPress Trackback works?

Why is WordPress the best blogscript today? Well, besides having many free downloadable plug-ins, thousands of different themes and a user friendly interface, WorldPress probably has the best trackback feature.

Developed initially to provide a notification medium between websites, trackback was technically enhanced by WordPress to another level. So how does it work?

Well, when you link your friend’s blog (who use WordPress) to your website/blog, WordPress automatically makes a comment in your friend’s blog post. The whole idea in doing this was to introduce more people to web conversation and to maintain a level of authenticity to the trackback comments since they originated from a different weblog.

The advantage of WordPress trackback is that your friend (and his readers) can only see a small portion (called "excerpt") of what you have to say. The incoming trackback encourages your friend and his network of friends to click over to your site/blog to read the rest of your content, and even possibly comment.

However, the whole idea of "authenticity" has not yet been really solved. This is because your friend can edit the contents of the incoming trackback on his own server as your trackbacks are generally posted to his blog along with his other comments. Along with this, since there is no authentic verification done on the incoming trackbacks, they can even be easily faked!!

It is what most people mean when they talk about Wordpress and it is also what most "wordpress blogs" are created with. You have full control with it. This is highly recommended. Wordpress.com on the other hand is sort of like blogger in that your address will be xxxx.wordpress.com and it stays hosted on wordpress. You can use your own domain but you still don't have full control of the blog. Basically using this is not recommended. I made that mistake with my first WP blog because I didn't know the difference and it got shut down for affiliate links.
Advantages of WordPress? - Hi mphcoach, For those of us who don't know, can I ask what are the advantages (i.e. aside from the "easy to use content management system") of creating a website using WordPress? Thanks
Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - Hi David - what I usually do for my blog is write a series of posts in advance and then just post-date them so that they go live automatically on the right day. It`s a build in feature in WordPress and I believe Blogger has recently added the feature in as well.
