What is META tag?

A META tag is the page abstract text that is placed inside html header tag and it is hidden from browser display area.

Search engine crawlers use these META tag text as the page description for displaying results. You can see Google results with title href followed by description of the page in the next line.

Guidelines for using META description tag

1. Create META description tag within 140-150 characters length; hence the maximum length of a META description to be displayed in search results should be between 150-155 characters. If your description text length is greater than 155, google will truncate remaining characters and displays with ... extension. W3C doesn't specify the size of this description Meta tag.

2. Focus on page abstract content instead of adding multiple keywords in the description tag. Creative content always drive traffic to your site.

3. Use the META description with proper cases similar to your page content paragraphs.

4. Each and every page must have the META description tag and it must be unique. Avoid using the same META tag on every page of your website.

5. Use relevant text to clearly communicate the contents of the page to the search visitor.

6. Include the name of your organization in the META description tag of your home page.

Roles of the META tag

1. Increases click rate from search impressions - If you use relevant description text on your page, targeted visitors would love to enter on to your site.

I also told him to start promoting some affiliate products geared towards that niche, which will help greatly with his income.[/quote:grxv1wv2] Yeah he definitely needs to do something different because social traffic and Adsense are a bad combination. The visitors won't click the ads and the ones who do won't go any further, so he will eventually get smart priced down to the one or two cent clicks.[/quote:grxv1wv2] The thing with that is his niche is high-paying, so the earnings per click is a lot. But, with less and less clicks, earnings per day are way down. So yeah, he definitely needs to target natural search engine traffic.
Re: From $0.30 to $300 / Day on Google AdSense Part 1 - How To M - You definitely have to pick the right niche/keywords for Adsense and you can't be getting all social traffic (Twitter, Digg, Stumbleupon, etc...) because that type of traffic will get you smart priced very quickly and you won't make jack from their clicks, if they ever click at all.
Re: How do u optimize a Blogger blog? - Hi GT, Of course there is a way and you know it, you wrote it down in your question. 1- Optimize your main blog code : Meta keywords, title, description. 2- Optimize your post - look at it as a web page. You need keywords (tags), use them in your title, first and last paragraph, and variations on the entire blog. Use the Strong tag, add title to links and alt to images. This is it. The key here is to do a good keyword search before writing.
Re: Basic HTML splash pages... - Thanks for the feedback guys. They got a lot of exposure for my podcast but hardly any sign ups: I wasn't surprised as TE surfers are much more responsive to "traffic". My most effective splash page is even more basic and pulls in one or two subscribers a day when I remember to juice up the TEs!
