Social networking. A vogue, trend or a mere craze. Today’s generation believes that they are obliged to be a part of this community. The influence is so strong that they have more faith and believe on their social network alliances than the actual relationships. Waking up to sharing a status or getting in touch with the facebook or twitter updates is now like having a bed tea. It has almost become a religion that most of the people are following across the world. Without the actual realization of the moment of event, the message spreads across facebook like viral. The routine is not complete without making an activity to prove your existence on the social network. This is nothing but craze, an addiction that we cannot deny. We are directly or indirectly connected to it almost throughout the day. There has been a phenomenal impact of social media on our lives both in good and bad ways. But the balance is well maintained. It is up to the users to make the maximum out of the good things that social networking offers and minimize the negative ones to the best possible extent. The positive part of it includes:

• Keeping connected: They enable you to form, maintain and strengthen your personal as well as professional relationships and keeps you updated about the latest happenings in their lives, share their moments of joy, being a part of their activities and much more. There is no dependency on other medium to be in contact or keep in touch with your pals.
• Bringing traffic to your blog posts: the social networking websites provide you an easy platform to spread a word about your blog or advertize it well and divert traffic to the page. Doing this, it immediately grabs attention and comes into the spotlight and surely creates an anxiety among the people about the content that you want to share. The case is similar with brands or products
• Campaigning for a cause: It could be a general survey, some kind of polling or voting, announcing and inviting for a meeting, promoting an event or spreading information about a social, political, cultural or any specific topic. Information gets disseminated quickly. It also enables quick response and in general, the take of the people to a particular event. It also promotes celebrating and rejoicing the culture.

• Helping the recruiters: These days, the recruitment teams in companies do not only focus on the skill set of an individual but are equally concerned about the characteristic traits and the social existence of the people are they looking forward to hire. With the help of these sites, they can gather information about the professionals who not only fit into their requirements and specifications but can also gel with the core values of their company.
• Rich source of information: If used optimally, one can enrich their knowledge base by building healthy and strong social networks and exchange views, information and ideas with people belonging to different origins, countries and cultures.
