In the modern day and age, more and more companies are doing business online. One of the best methods of promoting your website is by search engines. In this article, we’ll explain what exactly is search engine positioning. Also three steps you need to take to increase your position among the search engines.

What is search engine positioning?

Search engine positioning is the process where you or someone you hired, tries to raise the rankings of your website using different techniques like link building. Having a high ranking can guarantee you plenty of visitors to your website delivered naturally by the search engines.

First Ingredient - Content

In order to give your website a high search engine position, you will first need high quality original content. Since everyone searching on the Internet is looking for a piece of information, it’s only natural for the major search engines (Google, Yahoo and Bing) to rank good content higher. If you are running a blog, then make sure your content is updated frequently but stick to a relevant topic. Also try adding your targeted keywords in the content at strategic locations to improve the relevancy of your website. This step is crucial if you want to have success with the search engines, so don’t sacrifice quality for being cheap.

Second Ingredient - Links

What good is it if you have a brilliant website, but no way for your customers to find it? The second ingredient of successful search engine positioning is backlinks. Search engine spiders will crawl those links which can be seen as a vote to your website.

There are multiple types of backlinks, some better than others. The best kind of links is from an authoritative relevant website like an EzineArticles page. Then there are Web 2.0 sites like Squidoo, where you can create your own page and place a link there. Blog commenting might also be a good tool for creating relevant backlinks. Whatever you do, don’t spam other people’s website with irrelevant blog comments or email requests. Search engines are getting better and better at detecting spam, and you don’t want to lose your search engine position overnight.

Third Ingredient - Offsite Content

The final ingredient to a successful search engine campaign is creating offsite content. If you can quickly create (or pay someone to do it) a 1-minute video and upload it to YouTube, you can drive traffic from this extra promotion. Other types of offsite content include article submission, guest blogging and forum posts. By creating such content, you can raise publicity about your website and build more traffic.

Now you have a basic understanding about how search engine positioning works, it’s time to take these advice and apply it to your own website. Make sure your website has plenty of high quality content, then create backlinks from relevant pages and promote it via offsite content. By having a good search engine marketing plan, you can be sure to soar above your competition and bring a lot of visitors to your website.

Moreover, we have a wonderful tool to find out from previous posts. On the top right corner, use 'Advanced Search' and write 'Search Engine Tips'. It brings up all the previous posts with that information. Check it out. You will be surprised all the inherent information stored.

The computer geek tells everyone in school & even hands out 100's of flyers about his party Friday night...what happens? his friends end up showing up and a few new people...even the new people leave right away because it is not what they are looking for. The High School Football Captain ends up just telling a few good buddies, and within hours the entire school not only knows about it, but everyone wants to come, and everyone does come & stay. One defenition of "optimize is "To make as perfect or effective as possibe." How effective are your article marketing campaigns? Could you be distributing content (that is what search engines index) more effectively? In a perfect world, who would you want promoting your website, web pages, and web content?
