I have a few exceptional sales people in my team, and if they left for whatever reason, the department would really suffer. What is the best way to retain top quality sales people?

We’ve identifies 7 different types of sales people that we typically find on any sales team. Each are motivated and managed in a different manner. We call the top achievers, “Top Guns”. These are great to have on our team because they are high achievers, but this makes us vulnerable if we lose them. Here are a few ideas on how to retain them. Firstly, the main reason they might leave is because there is no real challenge for them anymore with your company. They overachieve easily. The second reason is they don’t feel valued by you and your company. Third reason is when someone offers them more money. The reasons are generally in this order too. So what to do? Firstly find a new challenge for them. Eg. responsibility for a new product or service or sales team. Get them involved in training your other sales people and being a mentor. This is recognizes how much we value them. Consider upgrading their financial package so when the sales people they are mentoring increase their sales, they are rewarded. That’s all we have space for here, but contact me and I’ll send you information on how to manage all 7 types of sales people.

How many sales people do you have working for you. How many sales people do you have working for you. - I love this forum since it has such a large variety of members. It would be great to have a better understanding of the sales function (if there is one) in your company. If you have a minute, vote in our poll and tell us about your sales department breakdown and sales efforts.
Who/what inspired you? Who/what inspired you? - I was just curious what or who inspired you to go into the field of sales and what did they do that caused the inspiration. We have a sales team that I would like to light a fire under and could use a little help knowing what makes people spark.
Re: Starting customized giftware... Re: Starting customized giftware... - Starting off with a Customized Gift is definitely a great idea. But you have not mentioned anything about what is or are the products that your organization is into. You have also not mentioned what is the target market or who your customers are. But it needs to be mentioned that whom you want to give the gift. There are two different categories of people who visit you. One category is those who are not much interested to buy. They visit the store for inquisitiveness or finding out what you have to offer them. These people can be given some smaller tokens. The other category is of those who buy from you are your real customers and you can give them gifts. The best gift after the sales will definitely be the after sales support and customer services. But these are in the longer run to retain the customers. You can start off with giving some percentage extra depending on what you have to offer. How about Discounts or different Gifts in lieu of purchase of X Amount, Y Amount...
Re: How to Promote a MLM Business? Re: How to Promote a MLM Business? - I guess I was more talking about how to get leads to work. You could not just stop there. In-fact you would have to follow-up with everyone of those people that signed up. MLM is hard and I think the people that are best at it have a big personality. It is sales in every way. You have to be a good sales person and a presenter.
Re: Sales with no start up fees. Re: Sales with no start up fees. - Hey Mary, Have you tried help wanted ads? There are a ton of IT & sales people out of work right now, if there is no cost to become a reseller, how about running an ad for a commission sales person that has sold advertising or software before? Set them up with a reseller website, some business cards, provide some training and get them to get your leads onto a webinar using gotomeeting or one like that? I have had success with this in other venues with sales, not software, but similar arena.
